Dear all,

we are happy to bring you some further significant improvements for the Viggen bringing us closer to full release, apart from multithreading compatibility, including some new additions, such as a new and highly detailed turbine model to the aircraft exhaust and much more.

We will publish more detailed updates about the general state of development progress across Heatblur modules later today. As always thank you for your kind support and feedback, and we hope you enjoy the update!

It is paramount that you add if you are running on ST (singlethread) or MT (multithreading) to your report please, everyone. Thank you!

DCS AJS-37 Viggen by Heatblur Simulations

  • NEW: Added new, highly detailed turbine model to aircraft exhaust.

First of all, nice update for the Viggen!
There is a slight inaccuracy with the tertiary air hatch. When using reverse thrust, the hatch closes which should, according to my understanding, not close.
(how would the exhaust exit forwards otherwise??)

Seems to be the same in MT as well, hatch is open for normal thrust and closes when you engage the reverser

Hello Heatblur!

Thank you for this update!

Very nice indeed!😊

I have noticed two things:

1 The air intake covers are both marked V as in Vänster (Left in Swedish)

The right one should be marked H as in Höger (Right in Swedish)

2 I can not see any numbers on the gear doors?

Just minor details!

I really like the ladder and air intake covers that has been added.

I also have got better frame rate due to the multi thread compability.

Great job!!!

Best regards:

Otulf

Thanks for the update and constantly improving. Like the tertiary air hatch now being implemented.

I think you need to review either the manual or the operation conditions.

From the manual, don't know which of the conditions are connected with OR or AND:

image.png

My experiences so far using MT OB:

- being in Zone 1 AB, hatch closes when going faster than Mach 0.6, not 0.65 as described above (of course gear retracted position)

- hatch keeps closed in Zone 2 and 3 of AB (of course gear retracted position)

- closed hatch with reverse thruster engaged, has been stated above, looks like a bug

added tests done with multithreaded version of OB

Small PSA/FYI for everyone,

we will publish the major update likely tomorrow, we decided to give a bit room for the MT update, as the majority of pilots is concentrated on that atm.

Thank you for your kind patience.

I was doing some MT / ST testing and was using RB75 as a test mission, and I got a weird issue if I run in ST, if I activate the RB75 seeker view and look in certain angles directly ahead, things starts to flicker like crazy. This does not exist in MT mode, and will be what I will be playing anyway.

Here is a short clip of the issue in ST mode on the Syria map. Did a repair of DCS just to be sure everything was as it should, but the issue remained.

Can confirm. Solid repro for ST Syria and PG (no luck in Caucasus, Nevada and Marianas). I feel like it has to do with units painting us with IR or radar. I can repro it when looking at Manpad units, but not for static objects or ZSU.

MT
When I do left turns I get this weird shading, doesn’t happen in OB.
I’m exporting the radar to another screen and ther was an issue with that but with the latest update that one got fixed.
So left turn 0-180 the shading is there, right turn 0-180 it’s not.
I’ve got a AMD R9 380

This is a general DCS bug, not related to the Viggen.
Btw, MT is only available in the OB so far, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say it doesn't happen in OB (unless you meant ST?).

Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Aha, then I meant it doesn’t happen in ST :)

Didn't see this thread until just now but much better placement on the tail numbers!

They are very squashed up against each other though, there needs to be a spacing between them of about 40 pixels/20% of its width, whatever that is in the board number system... The rear numbers position is pretty much spot on so it's the forward one that needs to move.

(Bord numbers in the darker red)

Screen Shot 04-08-23 at 11.48 AM.PNG

I messed around a bit with the texture but even with the best I can do it still looks too squashed up...

Spoiler

Screen Shot 04-08-23 at 11.49 AM.PNG

I tried to get the gear numbers to work but I could only get them to appear with argb 851 set to 1, but the numbers themselves didn't change based on the bord number.

Couldn't do a full check but the front/back position looks good, they could be and a bit wider though (without reducing the spacing any more), like 10 pixels/10% and about 20 pixels lower... Not sure how much you can tweak it in the texture later as I couldn't get it to work. Also they're very faded for some reason?

I unfortunately don't have the IRL dimensions of them but all of the gear door numbers, the tail numbers etc are standardized decals with inventory M-numbers 😅

Would be awesome to see the wing exercise numbers as well but can manage without them for now 😅

@IronMike tertiary air hatch still not working according to the manual

now it closes when AB is >zone 2, while it should be closed <zone 2.

So, in MT this problem doesn't occur? That would be great. Have to test that tonight.

Edit: In MT, the EP13 works flawlessly! Very good! 🙂
