Underscore Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 I think I have now settled on I'll not be seeing 90FPS with all the detail and resolution I would like with technology available for some years to come Therefore I am trying to get myself to come to terms with 30Hz on a G2 is fine..... to be honest I can't tell the difference from 45FPS and 90 is not attainable - just seems to be some sub-conscious telling me I should not be happy about it lol Am I the only one like this or are others happy with 30Hz and reprojection filling in the gaps? ----------------------------------------------------------- AMD Ryzen 5800X @ 4.8Gz; MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk; GeForce RTX 4090 MSI Trio; 32MB DDR4 @ 3600Mhz; Samsung 980 pro M.2; Varjo Aero VR; Thrustmaster Warthog stick, Viper TQS throttle & MFD's; Monza SR-P pedals
DirtyMike0330 Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 I'm surprised you can't hit 45 with your specs if you are using OpenXR and OpenXR toolkit with your G2. If you can't tell the difference, I guess that is all that matters, but if you are locked at 30 you aren't giving yourself anywhere to drop really when missions get intense. With unlocked motion reprojection via OpenXR Toolkit, at least you can step down from 45 to 30 in fringe cases and make sure you are maintaining a smooth experience throughout. Steel Jaw Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 What is “unlocked” motion reprojection? Is that the auto asw in the ott? I'm not sure if unlocked motion reprojection works with OTT, but with other headsets, like the OP's G2, if you use OpenXR Toolkit with unlocked motion reprojection, your FPS will step down to a locked 30 from 45 if something gets too intense to maintain 45. It's nice to have the additional step-down if needed and keeps game play smooth. Eclipse Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 The biggest downsides I experience while using motion reprojection are: "ghosting" contacts that are moving across my field of view, which makes it hard to ID a warbird within visual range. The bogey is quickly, constantly jumping a little forward or backward with each frame as the actual position is updated every other frame. And the propeller artifacts can be a little annoying to track a target through. This seems to be more an issue in certain RPM ranges. I do use reprojection "always on" at this point, because without it the experience is just not smooth. Rolling around in an engagement the framerate hitches pretty badly making it near impossible to keep a tally on something below you. With motion reprojection on, it's MUCH smoother, but then the two issues above are present. But, I'll deal with those issues until VR rendering is sorted out better. And I have no doubt it will be, between squashing bugs in the new mutlithreaded code and new techniques and enhancements that are in the works. i7-9700k overclocked to 4.9ghz, RTX 2070 Super, 32GB RAM, M.2 NVMe drive, HP Reverb G2 version 2, CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals, and a Logitech Throttle Quadrant

I've run my G2 at 60Hz since OpenComposite No reprojection (not necessary). I maintain near solid 60fps, with high DCS settings(no MSAA) and 80% render in OXRTfWMR. To this day, I do not notice any 60Hz flicker some report. Any slight amount is also eliminated by using the Light sunglasses in OXR Toolkit. I have an RTX 4080 enroute next week. oz555 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 G2/4090/13700k here. I used to use 45/30fps with MR and thought I was quite happy until committing to a good run with 60hz which I have adapted to and stuck with. Little things like appreciating an F3 flyby or a smooth merge in a dogfight make a huge difference to me when running at full refresh. Also clarity is overall much better and deeper somehow. I now have a pre-order on the Pimax Crystal which will likely push me back into reprojection. Might be a deal breaker that. Guess we'll see when the first DCS reviews with it come out. edmuss Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Being able to keep above refresh rate is an absolute game changer for DCS. It can be hard though, even 60fps needs hefty hardware and compromises to achieve it; 90fps more so. All being well the upcoming implementation of DLSS will enable the magic value of <11ms to be achieved for many. Regarding reprojection, it's going to get better soon for WMR openxr users all things being well. 45 vs 30 has always been practically impossible to differentiate for me during testing. However there is a slight clarity loss and the artifacting to deal with with reprojection in general. 1 Ryzen7 7800X3D / RTX3080ti / 64GB DDR5 4800 / Varjo Aero / Leap Motion / Kinect Headtracking TM 28" Warthog Deltasim Hotas / DIY Pendular Rudders / DIY Cyclic Maglock Trimmer / DIY Abris / TM TX 599 evo wheel / TM T3PA pro / DIY 7+1+Sequential Shifter / DIY Handbrake / Cobra Clubman Seat Shoehorned into a 43" x 43" cupboard.

Hippo Posted April 7, 2023 Posted April 7, 2023 In one word: NO. I accept it's very subjective, but since the days of the CV1 when 90fps was easily achievable in DCS (a deferred rendering engine "upgrade" put an end to that), I remain of the opinion that running in reprojection is not "true VR". Reprojection was always supposed to be a stopgap measure for the exceptional occasions when a system could not cope with extreme loads, not the default. However, we must play the hand we are dealt... grumble... I now aim for 72fps on Quest 2 and can mostly manage it with low settings. 3080ti. </rant> 1 System spec: Intel i7 12700k @ stock, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB GDDR6X, Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4, Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16, Samsung 980 EVO 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD (system drive), WD Black SN 850X 2TB NVME M.2 SSD (games drive), Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 Evo Cooler, Asus XG43UQ Monitor, Oculus Quest Pro, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS Prev System spec (leaving here because I often reference it in my posts): Intel i9 13900KF @ stock, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24GB GDDR6X, Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3600MHz C18, Samsung 980 EVO 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD (system drive), Samsung 970 EVO 1 TB NVME M.2 SSD (games drive), Cooler Master ML360 Illusion CPU Cooler, Asus XG43UQ Monitor, Oculus Quest Pro, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals
