The fact that the AI can see perfectly fine and laser beam you at night without night-time optics or radar guidance is a major issue. I wouldn't imagine it being that hard to introduce a in game penalty system through mission editor or just AI behavior that automatically lowers the accuracy based off the time of the mission and the lume provided by the moon and weather. I.e half moon with low scattered clouds. Obviously if the mission take place as the sun is coming up the penalty reduces.

Sorry not sorry but a dude on the back of a moving truck without equipment I.e nods / night optic isn't going to laser beam you on the first burst and perfectly track you as you are defensive. This behavior instantly kills rotor ops and low level ground pounding.

But they.... do? AI ground units at night time need some sort of visual illumination to detect, launch, and guide weapons on you.

Idk about night, but flying at day and getting sniped by BMPs flying at 2000 feet and mach 0.8 makes it hard to see where exactly the AI inaccuracy is.

Always. Its also a massive problem at day. Hence why in DCS, the BMP is primary soviet CIWS systems. US should get some of them and put them on their carriers.

If I'm flying at night in a dark green almost black Apache with zero illumination with a black night background, a good distance for separation you're going to have a pretty hard time seeing it without night aided optics. Watching a convoy of unaided DSHKs through my tads traverse their weapons towards me when they hit their engagement ring and have accurate fires on their first engagement is a load of bull crap.

*Edit*

If the AI Roe is set to weapons free they will engage their enemy once within range.

Just did another Apache night ops mission and had a flashback to this thread as a dude on the back of a pick up truck perfectly traversed the weapon at me once I was in their engagement ring. Gotta love it.

Any enemy aircraft at night ignores day/night, they know you are there. Specially the f5e and mig21bis bots, su 27 or mig29 you could give out an excuse. They don't use radar.

I'm curious if ED is currently trying to improve upon this? I just got my engine sniped by a BMP-1's 2A28 on a 250kph rocket approach in heavy rain, and my tail rotor taken out as I tried to recover it right after flying over him - helicopters other than the apache are somewhat agonising to fly because of AI behaviour like this.
