Hi everyone. I've finally finished building my prototype and it's now fully functional, so I want to share the build process with the community for anyone to build it as well. Here's how the prototype ended up looking like (there are still just a couple of finishing touches left, like the knobs, but it's already fully functional):

IMG_20230426_084545.jpg

I've created a website where anyone will be able to see the materials I used and follow step by step instructions to build their own: https://srsosio.wixsite.com/ah-64d-tedac

Since this was a prototype and I was changing some things on the run, I didn't document the process yet. There are also some missing STLs in the Thingiverse link that I will be adding soon too.

I've purchased more components that will arrive in a few days, so I can fully and properly document the process, so the site is still under construction. But if anyone can't wait for that and want to start building their own, we can use this thread and I will guide you through as much as I can.

I hope you enjoy this process as much as I did, and you can play CPG in a more realistic and immersive way.

Impressive job!

I have deone some UFC and ICP, and yours is a master piece!

Some questions:

Do the display work?

Do you have the STL files to share?

and, what board are you using? For my dashes, I use an Arduino Mega and the CVP joystick from https://forum.dcs.world/topic/97434-an-arduino-usb-hid-controller-composite-usb-controller . If you don't know it,you are missing something... 256 buttons per board, and 8 axels with a single USB used. Amazing!

Congrats again.

Saludos.

The display does work, but with the amount of wires and tight space, I managed to damaged mine, so it's not working right now, but it's a temporary thing. I had already tested it before that and was working normally.

I'm using an Arduino Pro Micro + a Nano board. I didn't know there were Mega boards that were HID, but that would be probably way better. I will need to investigate that.

Some of the STL files are already uploaded in thingiverse (link in the website of the original post), and if there are some missing, those are not needed to start building it, and will be adding them later. As I said, the part about sharing it with the community is still in progress. There are some files that I need to upload, the build instructions to write, etc.

Gracias por tus palabras 😉

To anyone following this topic, I'm sorry I'm procrastinating a bit and moving slowly. But although slowly, I'm moving forward and advancing on the build process in the website. Just be patient, visit it regularly, and if you started the project and have some questions that are not yet resolved in the site, feel free to contact me.

I'll announce when it's finished nonetheless.

Best regards

I'm happy to announce that I've sorted out all the issues I was facing and I'm 99% sure it's now in working condition. I have to admit that I have been building more than playing lately, so I haven't given it a full test, but everything looks right. I'm now working on updating the page so anyone who wants can start working on it asap.

I'll also try to upload a video to Youtube some day so I can showcase it.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to let you know that, although I still need to do some more work in the website, the build instructions are complete enough to be able to actually build it. I might have missed something, in which case it will be helpful that people start to build theirs and if they miss any information, they can contact me and I will update the site.

I know there are already several people working on it, which makes me very happy, and I've actually come to a couple of conclussions:

  1. In the near future, I might build some more of these to sell, for those who don't have a 3D printer or the skills to build it (or they think they don't because it's not a very complicated build), or simply prefer to pay to have it built. I'm still not doing it, so please don't contact me yet for that. I will put a "Store" section in the website or something like that and also announce it here when I'm ready to do it.
  2. I will probably start streaming in Twitch build videos also in the near future, as I do have some other DIY projects I think people might be interested in, such as the Apache collective or a battery powered track IR. I will also probably upload those streams (or a cut version) to youtube, for anyone to look at them at any point in time.

Thank you everyone for your interest and your support.

P.S.: I think this thread is more suited for the Inputs section. If any moderator sees this and agrees with me, please feel free to move it there.

Hey man...just checking in on the status of your build videos. I've started making the 3D printed parts, but eventually I'm going to need to move onto the more "technical" parts and some tutorial build videos would be EXTREMELY helpful.

Thanks.

Hi Jarhead. That's in my mid term plans. Unfortunately time is scarce for me lately, since I just became a parent. But do not hesitate to contact me for ad-hoc help.
