No one can predict the future - this is the first sale I have seen Varjo do on the Aero and it is a decent one at that. I personally do not think anything is coming this year that would truly beat out the Aero. But that is just me - I know a lot of folks "feel like" the Pimax Crystal will. I am biased in that regard though, I do not consider Pimax to be an option for me. So I am fine with the Aero for a while still yet thank goodness. It will be interesting to see what direction Meta takes the Quest line up later in the year.

I gotta say though DCS with MT along with Dynamic Foveated Rendering with Eye Tracking using the Aero is something else!

Really thinking about taking advantage of this sale and eat beans and weenies for a months. Trying to figure out if I want to upgrade my rig to a 13900K / 4090 or go ahead and get the Varjo. I'm definitely going with a rig that I can upgrade hardware as they come out can't do that with Alienware machines. But my main question is for the Varjo owners wearing glasses I use VRoption inserts for my G2 " their the best " so are ya'll using inserts or the mask for glasses that comes in the kit.

Imho yes,  for seated only you can probably get by with one. I play seated only and am glad I have two though.

OMG!!!!! I got home late Sunday so yesterday I carved out some time to get the Aero setup.  Easiest setup especially compared to Pimax (my only experience).  I additionally (and very easily) installed @mbucchia Varjo-Foveated (THANK YOU @mbucchia you once again releasing an amazing tool).  Everything again went simple and easily.

 

I am thinking of doing my own post of Varjo vs Pimax based on my experiences sometime soon but here is my take away... If you are on the fence of buying a Varjo my experience is take advantage of this sale.  My biggest struggled with the Pimax 8kx was always the clarity of of gauges and the MFDS especially with Targeting Pod clarity (I fly mostly A10C II).  I was blown away by the Aero clarity vs Pimax and with the Dynamic Foveated Rendering enabled the clarity of the gauges and MFDS text was better than 2D on my curved LG monitor and actually rivals Zooming in on the gauges and such in 2D.  

 

This was everything that I dreamed of DCS VR quality being.  I'm sure after sometime I will get frustrated over something but flying for a year with 8Kx during and including all the changes with MT and OpenXr I am IMPRESSED with the Aero.  I didn't run any FPS numbers yesterday I was just throughly enjoying the experience.  I will give Pimax credit for the large FOV and perhaps flying in MSFS I can see that advantage in a Civilian aircraft but I felt that the Aero FOV experience more was inline with wearing an actual military helmet (based on my limited experiences sitting in left seats in a few helicopters) and seeing we are flying in a Mil sim I felt the Aero FOV was within reason of realism.  

Anyways a quick update and encouragement to take advantage of the sale if you are serious about adding the Aero into your experience.

Congrats! It is a sweet headset and yeah mbuchia's DFR with eye tracking is the way to go with DCS.

I have been on the fence for several months between the Crystal and Aero.   I decided last night to go with the Aero and take advantage of the spring sale.    I have never owned a Pimax, but my gut feeling is the Aero may be a more polished product.   

 

I do have a couple of questions before I order.  I will only use the Aero with DCS, so do I need 1 or 2 tracking stations?    Which controller is recommended to use with the Aero?  I will probably place my order tonight.

Have to have one, two is ideal unless really strapped on the money side.

Index/SteamVR/ HTC controllers.

I have one tracking station centered mounted over my monitor and works great.  I will be surprised if you have any real issues with installation; the Varjo Base program is very user friendly.  You will have to set up a Steam account and SteamVR but the OpenXr and DFR for DCS is simple.  Follow Str][kerTV instructions,

@mbucchia recommended in his instructions on his install and it is what I followed.

 

Also it wouldn't hurt to have a controllers but not required; I still haven't even unpacked them a year later (got them with my 8kx)

So it is possible to use the Aero without a controller?  The only controllers I currently own are the G2 controllers.  Thanks for the YouTube link...I will watch it.  I just placed my order so it is now waiting time!

The aero has buttons on the headset so I believe you can manipulate simple stuff in VR without the need for controllers (setup etc.).
My aero is a couple of weeks away yet, I'll be going single base station to start with and upgrading to a second when I get the funds together to buy some index controllers

I just use my mouse to navigate things as normal. Again for DCS it works but if you branch out into other VR experiences I don’t know nor have any experience; my VR on PC is only for DCS.

Total cost for this upgrade/investment $2890.00 that's everything , the Varjo Aero and 2 trackers ,the Steel series Artic Nova 7 headphones and the index controllers from steam. Yep you are definitely good to go!

IMHO you will have the best headset out there - for quite some time. Especially for DCS.

@Burt - before installing Aero highly suggest you get rid of all remnants of your WMR and do a clean up of your Steam VR just in case.

Varjo base should run fine with WMR left on there

Leave it installed till the time that you no longer have the G2.

I cleaned all my software out when I got my Aero just to help make sure I would not have any conflicting issues. It may well be I would not have. But I sold my G2 shortly after getting the Aero anyway.
