ESCORT / FOLLOW - option to escort / follow opposite coalition.

Hi Developers,

Would like to request a added TASK to escort / follow enemy aircraft as a task option.

Now one can ONLY follow or escort a plane from the same coalition

BLUE AI -> Task : Follow / Escort -> RED AI.

If there IS a way to do this bypassing the basic option by script or any other way, please add in the comment.

Thanks.

RWC.

Yes this is necessary, one very obvious use case is recreating Cold War intercepts. And we know this already works in DCS, but requires some trickery to intentionally build into a mission.

In general we need to reduce restrictions on tasks and AI options.

Hm... Can you share the trickery you mentioned? I have one idea how to make it but that probably won't work well.

Like Gigafiga mentioned, if you change a unit from one side to the other, the follow task remains.

Can you teach me magic of how to change unit coalition on the fly? Or is it despawn/spawn thing?

You can change which countries are part of which coalition in the ME. The button for this is on the left, above the green fly button.

So:

Set Country A and Country B to Blue

Set plane from Country B to follow plane from Country A

Set Country A to Red

Blue Country B plane will now be set to follow Red Country A plane

Oh wow... That... didn't cross my mind. A wonderful trick, indeed!

Hi,

I'm on last Stable DCS 2.8.4 and I see a odd issue : we cannot set the command "Follow" and select a airplane from the other color (Red follows blue) in the Group. To solve it, I have to select a country from the same side, then select the plane I want the AI to follow, then I can turn back to the bandit country.

Am I clear enough ?

Cheers

Not a bug - just missing functionality or unneeded restriction.

It's on the wishlist:

This was recently discussed in a few threads. There is a workaround:

A to follow B:

  • Create unit A in BLUE
  • Create unit B in BLUE
  • Create task for A to follow B
  • Change unit B to RED
