simo-dj Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Hi guys and excuse me if this question was already answered. I tried to search ME forum but i didn't find anything. So. Let's say i have 4 packs of AI F-16's taking off from a certain airbase. 1st pack is tasked with CAP, 2nd with escort sead, 3rd with sead and 4th with strike. THese groups are all hot and ready to taxi and takeoff from their parking areas. I want these groups takeoff in the same order as above, from 1st to 4th. Is there a way to do this? When mission starts it seems they all run to runway and take off no matter their role. So strike group it goes to target area with all the air defenses up and running! Or sead group is simply shot down by enemy fighter scrambled to intercept them without CAP and escort planes protecting them. One more question. Let's say there are 3 packages and the 4th is with my plane. How can i achieve the same result? Thanks in advance pilots! DishDoggie Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 (edited) Hard for me to explain forgive me. 1.) Put 1 Jet down inside it's option window that opens when placed on the map set the takeoff from parking hot option and all the other options for this 1st jet. Then after all options are set Click on 1 of 1 to set the number of jets you want in this group. I will go with 3. After all 3 are made and set in place. Put a Trigger Zone down at the ramp that enters the runway to be used later. 2.) Create group 2 the same way only this time set the jet to takeoff from ramp or parking spot. After all the options are set click the 1 of 1 to make 3 more of them and go back to the 1st jet and Set it as Uncontrolled (it has to be done after the other aircraft are added or it will not stay marked. Then open the custom Trigger option and in the Set Command option set it to START. 3.) set the other groups 3 and 4 up the same way. 4.) Now you need to set the mission task window to trigger each group to use the Push Task command and pick Start and the Trigger will be when the 1st group enters the zone you made and placed down near the runway entrance. Then when a group enters the zone it will trigger the next group 2 will trigger 3 then 3 will trigger 4. I hope I get the point of this to you in a useable way if not I am sorry. Solution Grimes Posted May 15, 2023 Solution Posted May 15, 2023 The AI take-off priority is pretty easy to figure out. For multiple groups the order is based on the taxi distance of the flight lead from the start of the runway. Then each group will taxi based on that order. For example in the screenshot below the top aircraft is closer to the runway, but has a longer taxi distance to get there. In this instance the aircraft with the blue path will taxi first. Additional wingmen add an extra rule, but it is still straight forward. Within a given flight the taxi order is always based on the flight member with it being 1, 2, 3, 4 regardless of location. The next flight will wait until the last wingman of the current flight begins to taxi and is closer to the runway. Using the screenshot again imagine if the blue path AI has a wingman at parking number 5, lets call it "blue 2". The red path AI will taxi almost at the same time as blue 2 because the path of blue 2 is still shorter than the red path AI, and it won't need to wait. It gets annoying if blue 2 is parked someplace further away from the flight lead. In one instance lets say blue 2 is at parking 120. The blue path flight lead will taxi, once it passes 120 then blue 2 will start to taxi, and then red path AI will taxi with little delay. Likewise if you put blue 2 way up in the north eastern corner of the base it will taxi at the same time as its flight lead, but the red path AI will wait until blue 2 is closer to the runway than itself. That said there are plenty of other nuances to AI taxiing behavior that are partly down to general AI rules and even how airbases themselves are setup. You can create a empty mission, slap some AI down, set the wind, and you can easily experiment with how unit placement impacts take-off order. 1 3 The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. I haven't marked as solution because i think what @Grimeswrote is way more simple and straightforward. I had the suspect that where an aircraft was taxing from was involved but i wasn't so sure. Thanks a lot Dishdoggie and Grimes for your kind help! 1 "If you low&slow you're BBQing, if you hot&fast you're grilling, if you low&fast you're flying an Apache"
Slippa Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 I wondered how this was worked out. Glad you posed the question, thanks to both DishDoggie and Grimes for spelling it out. Guess who’s off to play with the traffic now? Cheers. 1
