Hello there,

i love DCS BH-50 its realy very good

So far im able to start up the heli, do some flying and even fire the weapons but than, i cant get some features working:

Shkval autoscanning, how does it work? i tryd pressing the button for it etc...all i see is that the searcher is moving from left to right / right to left without doing anything...ever. Even if there are 3-4 tanks in its scanning line, it wont do anything? Do i have to look manually on the horizon to spot enemys than using the cammera controlls to point it over every tank and than lock & fire?!

Autohover...i cant get this to work...i stop, i watch that im completly levled out and than i hit autohover and bamm....crash to the ground?! It usually does a 180 degree turn...up into the sky.

I have HUGE troubles to select targets for my missiles cos im not able to hover in air while standing completly still, all 3 autopilot helps are activated.

Shkval autoscan does just what you described. There is not auto-lock feature. The shkval is an electro-optical TV that requires the pilot to manually designate a target. Once designated the shkval will track the target via contrast.

Autohover requires you to be nearly in a haver before engaging. Ensure all AP channels are enabled. With the FP button off. Transistion to a hover or at least less than 10 km/hr movement in any direction with a stable altitude and than engage auto hover. Its more of a hover hold.

You should practice selecting targets while on the move. Hovering on the battlefield is usually a bad idea. Learn how to trim properly to establish stable flight and than use the HMS to get your sights in the area of the target. Than slew and desinate.

In other words RTFM. Also... check out the directors notes videos on the DCS webpage. Good luck.

Thanks alot...i think i played to much lockon with all that automatic stuff :D

I still dont know how to config my joystick properly...i think it would be best to put the Shkval Slew to the hat and look around with the mouse instead.

+1 for the above, though I felt RTFM was a little harsh! I find that if my autohover isn't cooperating, doing the following helps:

- cycle all the ap switches

- ensure route mode and FD are off

- clear trim

- trim at a mostly stable hover

- engage autohover

Remember that if you have any forward speed, the autohover will pitch you up when engaged. That is expected as the hpver point is now behind you.

Thanks again.

Another question...for what is the flight director good? i just readed it and it doesnt say when you should use it. i allways start up the heli..take off and use the 3 autopilot helps and fly manualy toward the first waypoint and i also do combat manoveurs this way.

When should i use FDC mode?

Its used for air shows or if you want to maneuver quickly without the auto pilots completely effecting your input.

regarding targeting whilst on the move..

I would find this really difficult as the shkval seems to move too quick , is there a way of moving it slowly?

Flight director on gives you a feeling of more control of the aircraft. Not quoting, but I believe it said for flying NOE, avasive manuevers, and airshows.

I like it for when I want to feel I have complete control and make the aircraft more responsive.

On my keyboard I use the "o" key to uncage the shkval then the ; . , / keys to slew the shkval onto a target and the "enter" key to lock.

Has worked for me anyway

remember that you can bind slew shkval to two rotaries (like the rotaries on throttles of HOTAS systems) allowing different movement speeds of skval slew and fast changes of the general direction.

I use both rotary knobs on my X35T (throttle of X36) and sometimes additional the "binary" movement (; , . etc..) of the shkval mapped to the D pad of my throttle when I just need an additional milimeter before I lock.

Ok sorry mate. Your right... should have said RTM instead lol. A good idea with gaining a lock on target while on the move is to lock something near it (enter) to stabalize the shkval. It will lock on the piece of terrain instead of "free floating", thann you can adjust accordingly.

Just a quick question. Is the english and the russian version combatible in multiplayer?

AFAIK, yes. I would be very much surprised if not.
