OB Crashing to black screen after update.

My favourite pop-up again... DCS update.

I was using OB last night after updating it earlier. It loaded fine, I used the ME with some mods, all good.

This evening I tried loading it and it asked for my authorisation, it locked into a black screen once I ran it. I had to force close the computer to get out of it. I tried loading three more times, same result so repaired it (slow version). Same story, crashes to black. I came to post, read a bit first then went off to update Windows drivers and anything else Windows related. Same story afterwards. Black.

I'm about to try MT version but what do I do about OB?

Cheers for looking.

Oh, I'm on a Mac, running Bootcamp, Windows 10, Updated, removed mods, repaired DCS OB, opened beer bottles, pulled hair out, itching to fiddle with my Mossie radios...

ETA: Yep MT too, Blackout.

I tried repairing again. I don't know what I'm looking at by looking at log files but have been trying out mods, with and without OvGME in a saved games folder on a D drive. I disabled mods in OvGME earlier. I must admit, I have succumbed to my recordaphile backup nightmares and have folders within folders upon folders. That, and at this point, I couldn't fly straight outta Biggin in any kind of shape, barring oxygen straighteners if I tried, so I'll sing I'm a little teapot" into a whiskey glass and leave a log file of my latest expeditions.

Thanks for taking the time to decipher the anomalies. :online2long:

hello. on the last log there is no crash. the updater error indicates you have mods (liveries) in the main dcs folder. custom liveries should go in the saved games. "move to backup"

example of liveries location

Oh?

Yep, I don't know how I do it to myself but there's a ton of stuff in the liveries folder in bazar. Some things I've never heard of. Bazar folder in program files folder I mean.

If I delete that bazar folder, then repair OB would that replace the folder with what should be in there?

I have been putting skins into a Livery folder in Saved Games on a seperate drive. Not sure how I've managed to get a few things into this bazar folder?

Cheers for looking Silver.

hello slippa. i would let the updater do its job. i do not know if a repair will replace the bazar folder. one would think but you know how that goes. you could move the folder somewhere else i suppose. also i would try to do the normal full repair without using OvGME just in case. it is the windows start menu along with the DCS shortcut.

Ran the repair, cleanup found some files again so I chose 'move them to backup'. It put CoreMods and the bazar folder in there. I tried DCS, black screen again.

I rebooted and had a look around. I have a few backup folders (created by DCS not me on another drive or something) and they have odd things like joystick inputs or aircraft. I try not to mess with anything other than the Saved Games folder usually and that's only for liveries. I've been looking at mods and skins lately trying to work it out so I've probably done a job on myself here.

Is it time for me to try uninstalling and reinstalling DCS yet?

hello again. honestly i do not think one ever has to reinstall DCS. the repair function normally takes care of getting it back to vanilla. try this. find your saved games folder. it may not be where you think it is. go to explorer and in the URL box type %USERPROFILE%. this will open up your user folder. see if there is a saved games there. also you can see by right clicking on saved games and looking under LOCATION tab. when found go to it and rename the DCS folder. when you start DCS it will recreate. run DCS like normal and see if it will open for you. keep in mind controls will be missing.

I deleted (before seeing your last post) the bazar folder and ran the slow full repair again. It did replace the bazar folder, I tried DCS, same thing, black screen. I then copied my coremods folder and was about to delete that as well and try the repair.

I have my Saved Games folder on a seperate drive than DCS. OB program files and install is all on C. My Saved Games folder is on D. I did just check the userprofile, there's no saved games folder there.

I'll go try the renaming trick, cheers. We'll see...

Oh. something's happening, it wants my login...

This could be the issue;  Lua::Config (Main): load error Config/main.cfg:[string "Config/terrain.lua"]:2: attempt to concatenate local 'visibRange' (a nil value). It seems like its having a trickle down effect on other scripts failing resulting in a black table which should hold graphics options.

Delete that file and repair again, it might be skipping over it for whatever reason.

Thanks for looking. I don't know where the file is to delete it?

I don't know how or why but it just loaded. 🙂

I did another slow repair, other than that I don't know? Changing the folder name seemed to move things on so I'll mark that as the fix. Now I have to hunt down a copy of my main options settings so I can see anything. lookin out for luas...

Cheers for all the suggestions for help, I really don't know what I'm up to half the time and when I'm grounded and stuck with it, well, it's not a lot of fun at all so cheers again.

😆 I forgot I'd put that.

I'm just trying to copy all the little bits over so I can do just that. Logbook, Missions, Inputs, you know, all that stuff then I'm straight back to messing with those needles.

Cheers again, blue skies too. :pilotfly:
