mmm, this guy didn't fly this for very long

Load times are a bit of a drag and for some inexplicable reason, Vista users aren’t catered for in some of Black Shark’s campaign maps.
... and hasn't taken the time to read the forums.

Though I do think the reference to the campaigns not compatible with Vista should be removed from the game, as it isn't correct and causes confusion to potential new customers.

This review missed the point completely

http://totalpcgaming.com/games/dcs_black_shark/

He did but he seems to be writing for the more main stream gaming audience. Having said that it really wasn't a bad review and if he can get more of the main stream gamers to buy this game it's more money for DCS. In addition it may mean more gamers get introduced eventually to a great new gaming experience which means more people to fly with for us.

What review?

I read the few paragraphs then kept clicking on "Full Review" expecting to see an actual review.

You said it brother ! ... What kinda review was that?

"Mainstream Gamer" ? ... The way it's written caters to my 7-year old.

They consist of ten minutes of ‘familiarisation’ video for each, narrated by a monotone informing us that the KA-50 Black Shark’s tri-fold electric system is “AC at 115 volts and 400Hz”
This part obviously show they haven't got much idea what a simulation software is.

All of those reviews are 20 lines most. They didn't even bother confirming that all the campaigns can be played in Vista as well.

Wag's voice is cool, imo :P

Wag is cool and all, and he does a good job with the lessons, but his voice has put me to sleep more than once. :D

I started out this sim in full realism mode, and without those execllent tutorials I never would have gotten off the ground... Sounds like this guy would rather play desert strike on genisis lol to each they're own I guess

Lol look at the pics they posted up - only of game mode. They've completely missed out on 95% of, and the whole point of the game. Bet the reviewers just flew around a few games with easy mode just to review it.

With reviews like this, I doubt the mag/site will be taken seriously by gamers. It's like tabloid v serious journalism.

The review is very brief and not very information dense:

Paragraph 1: It has Starforce

Paragraph 2: It has an "easy" mode

Paragraph 3: "Missions are historically based"???? The game mode doesn't make the game as good as other arcade flight games. The training is dull and not terribly helpful (I agree with this one). The easy mode camera is too far out.

Basically they just turned on Game mode, left it on, and judged it versus H.A.W.X. or similar. They didn't review DCS:BS, they reviewed the tiny tacked on Game mode offshoot.

I know everyone hates starforce, but i have never had a problem with it at all, (got LOMAC when it released) and having it on my machine dosent bother me in the least

We were impressed with the general balance between game and simulation too: the hardcore mode hasn’t been diluted in any way to cater for accessibility, yet PC gamers unused to what’s usually an awfully unforgiving experience will find Black Shark gratifying within the first few minutes of play.

Load times are a bit of a drag and for some inexplicable reason, Vista users aren’t catered for in some of Black Shark’s campaign maps.

But throw in the campaign editor and wingman multiplayer modes, and there’s even more legs (or rather, wings) in it than the average Microsoft air taxi simulation.

It's not glowing, but 7/10 is a pass :-) especially from a Gaming site, not a sim site.

The last 3 paragraphs are positive & if I knew nothing about the sim - I'd probably look for more info after reading that..

(Plus - the guy probably has to test 5 games a week, to he'll have been after a tutorial that turns him into an ace after an hour, not one that actually explains what things are and how they work.)

I used to buy their magazine but not anymore after this review. Their stating in their magazine that they are hardcore PC gamers and against consolazation but i doubt it. BS is the only true PC game along with STALKER in my opinion that is complex frustrating and deep. As PC games used to be. Go ED bring us A-10......

Haha, he probably couldn't play the game :) He sounds like a casual gamer for me, not a simmer.

It's the problem with review websites these days, most of them let totally irrevelant guys to review simulation stuff.
