Video card upgrade for G2, will I see good improvements?

So I just purchased a G2 this week and entered the DCS VR foray and my mind was instantly blown!!!! I’ve getting about 45 fps with my current settings and forcing OpenXR. The one thing that seems off when flying is the “stuttering”/“screen door” effect on ground objects as I’m flying by fast. Mainly an issue when low flying in an A10. If I fly the BS slowly over the ground it’s not a big issue or if I turn the graphics settings down it isn’t as big an issue. I’m thinking it’s mostly a graphics card issue. I’m currently running a 2080 Super and before I go out and drop $1,600 on a 4090, I’d like to make sure that is what would solve my problem. My total system specs are below.

-Z390 Motherboard running an i9-9900KF. All cores at 4.7ghz, but I can run all 8 cores at 5ghz stabile (unless it’s a real hot day lol).
-32 Gigs of RAM
-2080 Super
-Nvme SSD windows Drive
-Nvme SSD game drive for DCS
-3 other Nvme/SATA SSDs for overflow game/data drives
Reverb G2
LG 34” curved ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor

Core i7-930 (2.8 OC to 3.85), ASUS Rampage II Extreme, XFX Radeon 5870, 6 Gigs MUSHKIN DDR3-1600 6-8-6-24, 128 GB Crucial C300 SSD, 500 GB Western 5400rpm Digital Green Drive,ASUS SATA 3 6gbps card.

4090 would be a huge increase in VR performance in DCS. I am running an Aero with similar system as you other than the video card and am well pleased with the jump I got moving from 3090-4090.

You can safely put it this way, if anything the 4090 GPU will not be the boats anchor, not so sure how much the rest of the system will fare.  The 5 Ghz don't necessarily mean much, many other factors in a CPU.

I came from 2080ti + 8700k@5Ghz --> 3090 + 8700k@5Ghz/13900k --> 4090 + 13900k.

It was a small change from 2080ti to 3090 and big (double+ previous upgrade) change from 3090 to 4090.

The 8700k@5Ghz to 13900k was good for 10-15% improvement in 1% lows, but not much on the high end of fps.

I feel the 4090 on 8700k@5Ghz would have been ok, just leaving a little on the low end on the table.

BTW, I have 64GB RAM as well.

Even on this highest end setup I still have to run reduced 70% supersampling on the G2 to get decent smoothness, and still have to put up with stutters/shimmers here and there at that.  What I'm saying is even if you go big it's not enough to overcome the shortcomings of this game.  Framerate is still an issue to contend with throwing everything at it HW wise.  That said, the 4090 was the best bang for the buck investment in my system. (god it sounds crazy to say that about a 4090!  Fantastic card)

I don't have any experience with the 9900KF, perhaps you can extrapolate from my 8700K@5Ghz experience...

A little off topic but worth a mention if your a single player.

Learn the mission editor so you can create your own weather conditions times of day & AI etc.

Buy a server for a 100 squid or so and let that take care of the AI it will change your world in VR for next to no money.

I don’t do a ton of SP, unless it’s for learning or some quick combat. I prefer to play MP on Enigmas server.

The 9900KF is a beast. Even at stock speeds if I’m playing SP in 2D I’m getting about 140 fps but when I put it into VR it’s about 40mpg. Both situations my processor is only running about 23%. Playing in a MP server with 60 epilepsy it bumps to 70ish%. So my system definitely isn’t CPU bound.

I have a 3080ti and a 12900KF with OpenXR running native res ie ss 3425 x 3500 per eye. I use motion reprojection on and it sometimes goes to 1/3 rate. Looks awesome, I’ve stopped f#[ing with the settings, I’m just trying to have fun.
