davebert Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 I usually use the Beta version but keep the release version up to date and check for updates once in a while. I tried to update this yesterday and it says I don't have enough room on my hard drive. Is the upgrade really this large and it's telling the truth? I have the Beta and the release version both on the same 1TB hard drive. I have another 1 TB hard drive with 549GB free so could I move the existing files there or is it time for bigger hard drives? Thanks

BitMaster Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Yes, as Rudel_chw states. I ran into the same issue with my dedicated Server on my 2nd rig residing on a dedicated 256GB SSD...well...that got too small by now, either skip one or two maps or get a bigger drive. davebert Posted August 29, 2023 Author Posted August 29, 2023 (edited) Alrighty then, time for for more new drives. I just bought 2 4TB drives for my current non-gaming pc and a few 16TB for my backup storage drive box, so a few more drives won't hurt (except for the wallet). I know SSD's are cheaper now but a WD spinny gaming drive may be what I add as the DCS simulator seems to run ok with them. Thanks Added: I just ordered a 6TB WD high performance gaming drive with 256MB cache for $119 with free shipping direct from WD. Edited August 29, 2023 by davebert
BitMaster Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 That is not what you should do ! DCS really requires some kind of SSD meanwhile and it is also stated in the minimum system requirements. Cancel that order and get a proper 1TB or bigger SSD for DCS instead. You will not like DCS on a HDD. 1 Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

davebert Posted August 29, 2023 Author Posted August 29, 2023 (edited) Well the current drive I was running the release version on was a WD 1TB Black high performance drive and it ran fine. I forget if I ran the game on the C Drive SSD and put the rest on the spinney drive as I forget as it's been on there a long time. Anyhow, I just bought a 2 TB Samsung SSD just in case. Here is the link though to the WD Gaming Hard drive I got. Thanks https://www.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-black-desktop-sata-hdd#WD6003FZBX Edited August 29, 2023 by davebert 1
MAXsenna Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 It will probably "run" fine. Load times on the other hand... Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk
davebert Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 Update: I installed a new Samsung 2TB SSD and to my surprise. It replaced a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro that had both the beta and the release version on it. No wonder I thought it was fast enough. The 6TB gaming drive will be great for backups so it's all good. 2
