BobDoom Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 As of late August, any mission either from mission menu or the campaign menu will randomly end to the debriefing screen with no cause. Can be flying around casually, and poof! Debriefing screen. Does not appear to be confined to any one module as its occurred in every aircraft ice attempted to fly. I have Uninstalled and re-installed DCS, removed all mods, and checked game file integrity via steam, no resolution so far. Issue presents in both open beta and stable release versions. Any tips or info would be appreciated.

It shouldn't be a problem to use VPN, but lately I have seen several cases like yours that have been tracked down to VPN use. zildac Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 interesting. yeah, I am and have been using expressVPN for the last 1800 hours of playtime. you think the VPN is causing a problem? The 401 likely relates to HTTP 401 (unauthorised) it's unlikely but possible that the IP address provided by ExpressVPN is changing during your play session. If you check your public IP when you first connect and start DCS wait until it disconnects and then check again and see if it has changed. 1 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero
BobDoom Posted September 11, 2023 Author Posted September 11, 2023 alright, well considering I have done literally everything else one can think of at this point, ill have a look at the VPN IPs before and after, and before I commit to a hour long mission, maybe just turn off the VPN before hand. nothing quite as disheartening as being 45 min into a flight only to get smacked into a debrief, lol.
zildac Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Long shot, but worth a try. You could just enable the VPN once you're in game and see if it disconnects, the IP will change from your "real" Public to that of the VPN, so it would prove or disprove the theory. 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero

Alright, here's and update. I did as you suggested, and enabled the VPN once in game, all went well. ran it for while with no issues. THEN a new thing happened! instead of simply getting booted to the debrief screen, I got an in game alert window that stated "Mission must be activated." Was unable to use the green end mission button, could use cancel. Might be different since I was running a purchased campaign this time. Ultimately I had to exit the game entirely before I could start that campaign again otherwise I would get the same "Mission must be activated" alert. I had to bail fast (5 month old woke up from his nap) and I didn't think to grab any logs or screenshots. I will replicate the problem before the end of the day however and try to get those data points posted here. Once I do that, I will likely just run DCS without the VPN enabled for giggles and see what happens just to be thorough. Also, I'm not above questioning the stability of my system... my rig is... dated. But dated like a rebuilt classic car is dated.

FWIW if you're solely playing DCS then I'd just forego activating the VPN. It's just another task using resources and the security benefit playing DCS is pretty much zero. 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero

So its definitely the VPN. if its off entirely, no problems. So, I've set a tunnel for DCSWorld.exe to go around my VPN, and everything has been fine now ever since. Thanks to Rudel_chw and Zildac for pointing me in the right direction! 2

Well, technically the VPN is the tunnel that you've forced everything through. Now you've made an exception for DCS to enjoy the default scenic route. Cheers!
