Hi,

Wondering if other players experiencing the same behaviour. On Syria map, with day and good weather condition, flying over some buildings make the helicopter suddenly react (sliding left or right) without moving the joystick. You can test on Beirut town, flying over buildings in construction for example.

But when flying the day with rain condition, the helicopter don't have the same reaction and stay stable.

Can anyone confirm?

thanks

There is a problem with the flight model of the Gazelle. Since their last patch, I cannot take off anymore without damaging the helicopter. It not flyable anymore for me.
I did not change anything to the configuration of the module. And by the way, it is not only on the Syria map, it happens also on the Caucasus map. Try the build-in
mission "Improve your flight skills" (or something similar), it's the last mission listed for the Caucasus map. Impossible to take off without the helicopter being pivoted
left and right before touching the ground either with the tail rotor or main rotor.

And yes, I have rudder pedals. It does not happen with the Huey nor with the Hind.

Yeah, I had the same a couple of times, also on Syria, though I didn´t test other maps.
For me, it has mostly been a problem when I try to land. Like a sudden twitch to the side as if something was hitting the helicopter.

Could be the ground effect simulation.

I just played through the MAD campaign. It seems it have some serious issues with some ground surfaces. No issues at all on helipads, concrete, runways, ships. While out in the desert it would tip to the left, contrary to what it does on an "artifical" surface. Only way to overcome, was to push the cyclic forward while yanking the collective while full right torque deflection.

I also notice some "effects" while landing on small buildings and small helipads on roofs, which leads me to consider the ground effect. Same issue when trying to touch down on The Strat in Vegas. But it could be realistic for all I know. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That does not explain why this "realistic" ground effect disappear in raining condition .
Tested on Mariana, Persian Gulf and Caucasus, the roll/sliding reaction appear only on Syria map for me.
Oh! I need to find me some rainy conditions then. Never flew in the rain with the new FM, nor in Syria. So it might be about time.

Speaking of realism, it shouldn't make any difference if you are on tarmac, grass or the desert. Only things like ships or buildings where one side of the Helicopter experiences ground effect, whilst the other doesn't should make it behave differently.

For myself I can only say, that the last FM tweak of the Gazelle broke it for me personally (I liked the first iteration of the new FM, even if it was a bit underpowered). I opted to stay away and wait for further tweaks. I never really looked into the "what" and "why" though. It just felt like being a loose pendulum under the rotorhead. 🤷‍♂️

I have to revise my opinion, the gazelle's behavior is modified according to wind conditions.
In good weather, with no wind, the gazelle doesn't slip when I fly over a building, but it does when I add wind to the mission.
So I don't think it's a bug if we consider that a building affects the wind that hits it.
Sorry for starting this discussion.
That's interesting, nice find!
