-Scrat- Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Hi, It seems that the dust is not impacted by the shadow, there is no difference in terms of shadow "light" intensity. Also, when driving over the grass, the sand dust does not seem realistic... Has anyone noticed the same ? Scrat 3
Lasko Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Agree, the dust effect is way overdone. Every helicopter landing is like in a dust storm with zero vis. This needs to be adjusted down or an option to disable. 2

Joss Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 yeah... Dust effects are very beautiful in SP, but i MP it's a nighmare. Planes can spot you 20nm away... Above sand it's nice, but above grass there is waaaay too much dust. I think ED needs to reduce dust effect and apply different effects according to the type of terrain.
Flappie Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 (edited) Hi @-Scrat-, I'm pretty sure DCS cannot apply a shadow to a dust/smoke effect. I'm also pretty sure this effect cannot project its own shadow. Now, regarding the "too much dust on grass" part, I've just discovered that vehicles don't produce smoke as long as they don't drive too fast. This looks rather realistic: tanks.trk Edited October 29, 2023 by Flappie ---
-Scrat- Posted November 2, 2023 Author Posted November 2, 2023 @Flappie Thank you for your message. I appreciate that DCS has limitations to deal with the dust effect in the programmation. However on my picture above, this effect is the same for a tank and a light vehicle unit with wheels, which is wrong as a tank track will produce much more dust effect than a light wheels vehicle. On top of this, let's talk about the helicoper downwash effect. In DCS, if the helicopter is on ground with no pitch applied on the blades (zero lift effect), you still have a dust effect that never goes away (see 2 pictures attached), which is wrong as well, look at the video down here from 0.22 sec to 0.36 sec. You will notice that when the helicopter is on ground with rotor blade turning with 0 pitch applied you will see that ther is no wash out effect. If you could do something for the dust effect & the effect for the helicopter that would be great as you can get spotted from miles away being on ground for several minutes with a dust effect that isn't real especially for the helicopter. This effect must only be created when the pilot applies pitch on the rotor blade for take-off, and for landing until the pilot is on ground with 0 pitch on rotor blade. For the helicopter in DCS, the effect that you but in place is really nice but it should be adapted to the ptich (lift) that you apply on the rotor disk ! Thank you for your feedback about my last message! Scrat 2
Flappie Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I agree with you about the two points: It would be good to see a difference between wheeled vehicles and tanks, at least on grass (I guess there should not be any difference in sand, right?). The dust remaining while no pitch is applied has already been reported internally. Wait and see. 2 ---
-Scrat- Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 HI @Flappie, Any news about the adjustment of the dust/wash effect on DCS ? It's so unrealistic on grass surface as you can see on the pic. It's really annoying Scrat
