TEDAC Export does not switch off when switching to PLT seat

Recommended Posts

When joining the Helo in the PLT seat, the defined TEDAC export position has no output - Good

When switching to the CPG seat, the TEDAC export position shows the TEDAC screen- Good

When switching back to the PLT seat the TEDAC screen remains visible but is now frozen - Bad!

May I ask for the TEDAC export to switch off completely when switching back the PLT seat please.

Many thanks.

@jonsky7 so you would prefer the TEDAC to stop exporting / turn black rather that freeze when switch seats correct?

thank you

Either that or not freeze.

A frozen display doesn't really serve much purpose. That screen space can be used for something else while in the pilot seat.

Thanks for the reply!

+1 on the frozen display serving no purpose.

There hasn't been much progress on blanking out the TEDAC display when switching from CPG to Pilot. From my experience, the monitor that displays TEDAC is actively blanked while the player is in the Pilot seat then unblanked while the player is in the CPG seat. I find that troublesome because I'd like to use that space for the ControlsIndicator overlay; all my attempts to place the overlay in the "spare" monitor for the Pilot failed.

Here are some screen shots that I took today (01/10/2025) while in Instant Action: Hot Start on Kutaisi. This is the total screen resolution that DCS sees and displays on my multi-monitor setup.

Screenshot 1: Pilot Seat. Orange box is blanked out. With ControlsIndicator overlay enabled, the Autopilot overlay is 95% blocked by the blank out. I normally edit my LUA file to move the autopilot overlay to the primary window. The purple box approximates the position of the Autopilot portion of the ControlsIndicator overlay. I would much rather use this blanked out area to display the ControlsIndicator overlay.

Screenshot 2: CPG Seat: TEDAC display visible in the display. The purple box again shows the autopilot portion of the ControlsIndicator overlay. It is cutoff with the same amount.

Screenshot 3: Pilot Seat: This was taken right after sitting in the CPG seat. The orange box shows the TEDAC display (stuck in the last known position). The purple box highlights the autopilot portion of the ControlsIndicator overlay.

In one of the early iterations of the AH-64, the area in the orange box was not blanked out and it could be used to position overlays like the ControlsIndicator. Is it possible to remove this blank page for additional use? And could the TEDAC be turned off when transitioning from CPG to Pilot seats?

Note: Screenshots were reduced in size to save HDD space in this post. The original screen size is 4960x1440.

It would be nice if you could have a TEDAC viewport setting override a MFD setting for the CPG seat.  So you can export the TEDAC for the CPG and still export both MFDs for the pilot seat.

@BIGNEWY & @flanker0ne,

Has there been any progress to address this TEDAC export function? Could this issue be re-addressed, please? It's been over 1.5yrs since there was any acknowledgement.

Thank you!

@Mapi, I haven't tried that method. However, my chief complaint is the display area which the TEDAC uses is actively blanked out for the pilot. If you carefully look at my screenshots, you could see a very small sliver of the Autopilot Controls Indicator overlay behind the blank out mask.

In a very early iteration of the AH-64, this area was not actively blanked out so that area could be used to display either Controls Indicator (or both).

There is so much for ED to do, no new maps and no new models will help, it never ends ...

I should point out that I am not part of the ED team.

My job is to report bugs, but I have no power to influence the resolution process

Bumping thread for visibility & awareness. The TEDAC is still being actively blanked for the Pilot and covers up the Autopilot Controls Indicator overlay.

@BIGNEWY,

Has there been any progress on this issue with the AH-64 TEDAC video export? It's been under investigation for well over 1 year and 9 months. But who's counting anyway?

Last weekend, I flew the AH-64 using a dynamic slot on my squadron's server. The aircraft went down and while the pilot was killed I must have switched to the CPG just before exploding into a fiery hole in the ground. Afterwards, I spawned in a few more time as the pilot in different Apaches. One thing remained constant: The TEDAC display was ON any time I jumped into the cockpit.

Can this problem be addressed? It's been on the books for a very long time with no updates (1yr 9mo+) from the ED Team.

Here is a screenshot of my cockpit setup with multi-monitor configured (Main monitor plus 3 Cubesim MFDs). The main viewport is on the left, the TADS Page is on my Left MFD, the Weapons Page is on my Right MFD, and the errant TEDAC display is on my Center MFD.

@BIGNEWY, this is becoming more and more frustrating. Can this problem be addressed, please? Can we get some further traction other than "Investigating"? I could avail myself for a Discord chat or other means to dialog about this long-standing issue.

Here are more items to point out about the TEDAC display.

1. Spawned in first AH-64 in Pilot seat.
2. Autopilot Controls Indicator display blocked by black overlay.
3. Switched to CPG seat, didn't play with TEDAC.
4. Jumped back to Pilot seat, TEDAC display still on; Auotpilot Controls Indicator display blocked by TEDAC display.

5. Spawned in to new aircraft, CH-47F. Nothing unusual about the displays.

6. Spawned in to a second (different) AH-64 in Pilot seat.
7. TEDAC display still on from the first spawn! It was immediately present because the rest of the cockpit was still being rendered. Notice the blurry segments?

First screenshot represents first spawn. This was taken after I moved from Pilot to CPG then back to Pilot seats. Note the Yellow Box showing the TEDAC overlay and the purple arrow shows the Autopilot Controls Indicator being blocked.

Afterwards, I spawned into a CH-47, nothing unusual with the displays. Unless you count the Left MFD not being displayed.

Screen_250724_173821b.png

Lastly, I spawned into a different AH-64 slot, in the Pilot seat. While the cockpit was being rendered (see blurry segments), the TEDAC display remained on. That was 2 aircraft spawns ago! Why does the TEDAC display remain on after switching between 3 different aircraft slots?

Hi,

we have a report internally, but I have no news to share, this is currently a low priority task in the development.

thank you

@BIGNEWY,

Thank you for breaking the silence on this thread. I also noticed the tag was changed from "investigating" to "reported". Given your reply, it appears the tag is a downgrade.

From the perspective of a guy with multi-monitors, this annoyance discourages multi-crew flights. Additionally, the frozen TEDAC screen will be on during the same session, regardless of other aircraft used in between. So if I were to fly as CPG then switch to flying an F/A-18, F-14, CH-47, etc, and then return to Pilot an AH-64, the image that remained in the TEDAC display will once again reappear and not go away.

The only way to remove it would be to start a brand new mission, leave the server & rejoin, or restart DCS. That is a "less than optimal" solution to this problem.

While this bug is a low-priority, it will quickly come up on a 2yr anniversary; 1st reported by @jonsky7 on 25 Oct 2023. What is needed to elevate this task to a higher priority? How much more time will pass before this problem would be resolved?
