Pilotasso Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 CH is the only choice IMO. I do a lot of repair for friends. I always tell them "You should have bought a CH and you wouldn't be having this problem." What are friends for huh? hey guys! As a matter of curiosity. how heavily has your cougar been used? Because there are heavy duty flyers like me and others who fly only occasionaly. Then the cougar is prompted to last longer. BTW, my brother will be back from the US in a few days and Ill be able to try his CH setup. Well I will have an opportunity to judge that on my own. So far no complaints on my 6 month old X52. Though the CH is admitably better IMHO. How better? Ill leave yo a hint for those who never had a chance to grabb both. .
snomhf Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I added a DT225 to my Fighterstick/Pro Pedals/Pro Throttle/Throttle Quadrant setup. It's amazing to use for HUD/Radar cursor. Much more precise than using the minijoy on the X45 or the PT. I'm just about out of CH stuff to buy. :) You could get a set of my left-handed handles. Then you could have a stick for each hand! :D ---------- Click here for details ---------- Abit AV8 MB, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1.5 GB DDR, GeForce 6600GT/256MB AGP, CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle/Pro Pedals/Throttle Quad/DT225 Trackball, TIR4
brewber19 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Check my sig, thats what I use... I've had: 1) A MS FF2 stick (really precise stick, wish I hadnt sold it :() 2) X45....not a fan, especially disliked the rocker 3) X52, nice enough stick, bad centre play though 4) CH Fighterstick + Throttle + pedals, took ages to get used to them, different feel to Saitek etc BUT....very precise and now I can actually hit stuff with the Frogs internal gun....which I could barely manage with any of the other sticks. Conclusion: For me, CH seems to work best for me and, if I had all the cash Rugg seems to have (:D), I'd get a TQS as well ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 487th Helicopter Attack Regiment, of the VVS504 Red Hammers
snomhf Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 I bought my first CH HOTAS in 1995 (FS, PT, PP) gameport version. I made my left-handed fiberglass handles in 1996 after I got tired of trying to fly right handed. I bought my USB set (same pieces) in 2000 and moved my handles to the new stuff. I have never had the first problem with any of it. I have never needed to used dead zone, never had a switch stick, go bad, anything. CH stuff is absolutely rock solid. Honestly, I know there is this love affair with Cougar but I don't see it. All the mods and extra pots and all that. I really don't understand what all the excitement is over TM. I'm pretty handy with modding and have considered getting a used Cougar and stripping the guts and installing CH FS and TQ parts in it so as to get something reliable but I just don't see any reason. Oh well. Glad you guys like that stuff. Maybe some day I'll understand. ---------- Click here for details ---------- Abit AV8 MB, AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1.5 GB DDR, GeForce 6600GT/256MB AGP, CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle/Pro Pedals/Throttle Quad/DT225 Trackball, TIR4
51GRIZZLY Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 I was allso in a dilemma when i decided to replace my X45 and at the start i was really tempted to go for the Cougar because at that time the Cougar prices plunged about 50% making the CH stick more expensive then the complete Cougar HOTAS. So i browsed the forums and basicly found out exactly what this tread has shown so far: 1 : The Cougar is cheaper then the CH but ( if your unlucky ) not so reliable and, in the opinion of many Cougar owners, it first will be perfect when modded for aditional costs wich would make it ewen more expensive then the CH. 2 : The Cougar is made of metal with a spring on the base ( allmost like the X45 ) CH is made of Plastic composite with no spring on the base so i guessed it would be a really different feel to fly with it. 3 : CH costumer support would be exellent and for some reason not one of the Cougar owners ever expressed any doubt in that direction. In the end i decided to by the CH because i dont care if plastic or metal as long it works and im not good at electronics so smoldering small black, red and green wires on potmeters is just no job for my big butcher hands. It took a few weeks to really get used to this stick because as i expected it feels totally different compared to my old stick it is extremely precise and with minimal tension all the way to the gimbal limits :joystick: not like the old stick i had bolted on my desk so it wouldnt move when i armwrestled with . So now i got the CH fighterstick teamed up with my X45 Throttle and CH pro pedals and it works perfectly with my personal profile setup. :pilotfly:
