kehanopni Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 (edited) I have been flying the helicopters for years now , I know the Huey and mastered the Mi-8 (100+hours in just the mi-8) I don’t use rudder pedals because I don’t have space so I still use joystick twist for yaw. On all the helicopters I have the option checked to allow for rudder trim and that’s how I normally fly. I’m still struggling with yaw in the hind. I usually turn on the autopilot yaw channel. The one thing I cannot figure out for sure is if the rudder trim https://omegle.onl/ (a dcs helper option)is fighting the actual yaw autopilot. I think it’s is. Long story does anyone know what’s going on ? Edited November 6, 2023 by kehanopni
admiki Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Never tried that combination, but probably yes. If you think about it, control helper tries to maintain trimmed flight and yaw AP tries to maintain heading. If I were you, I would either turn off yaw AP or switch it to dampening mode.
randomTOTEN Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Stop fighting the autopilot all the time, and learn to let the autopilot help you. 1 hour ago, kehanopni said: The one thing I cannot figure out for sure is if the rudder trim (a dcs helper option)is fighting the actual yaw autopilot. You will see the autopilot and auto trimmers function, and learn to predict their actions. If you can learn to fly within the autopilots limitations, it will become a system that makes your life easier, not harder.
SlipHavoc Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 You might find this video useful: I haven't personally verified what's shown in here, but it looks like it covers most of the yaw stuff.
AeriaGloria Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 Control helper option will only harm you Pedal trim won’t hurt you by fighting autopilot, in fact you can set Microswitch to also trim pedals For maneuvering flight 99% of the time I suggest either keep Yaw channel off to keep it simple, or keep Microswitch pressed to keep it in dampening/stabilization mode (you can use toggle or momentary bind). I set my Microswitch logic to “automatic off,” so I only have manual control instead. By default your Microswitch logic is in “disable by return to center,” where Yaw channel is in heading hold when pedals are within 9% of center or last trimmed spot. But since in helicopters sometimes you need to turn with pedals close to center, it will still mess you up unless you use Microswitch bind, go to “automatic off” for manual Microswitch control, or turn Yaw AP I like the effect of yaw channel with Microswitch pressed becuase it is in a “stabilization mode” that helps you maneuver smooth, but most people will not even notice it and can just keep Yaw AP off until you want to fly straight if you want to keep it simple Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
