Quest 3 - Translucent white bars across display.

Hey Guys,
I have been frustrated trying to get rid of these translucent white bars that slowly get worse as I fly. If I look skyward, and just look at the blue, they will go away for about 15 seconds and then slowly come back. As I understand it, they are from the sliced encoding missing data.

System:

  • AMD 7800X3D and 4090
  • 3.2 USB-C to USB-C,  test out to 2.5Gbps on Oculus Set-Up
  • Headset @72mHz with ASW disabled

Best results so far with:

  • Encode resolutions Width: 4096, It may be past the max
  • Encoder: H.264
  • Encode Bitrate: 960 Mbps
  • Sliced encoding: ON, If I turn sliced encoding off, it's a bit of a mess

Has anyone else had problems with these white bars?

Thanks,
Miles

Try to manually set your encode resolution width to 4128.

You might have to copy paste the value from a notepad or word file into OTT or ODT.

Thanks Phantom,
I did change it to 4096,I thought that was the max,  but I will check again.

I had to turn sliced encoding off to get rid of this.

Thanks Hadeda,
When I turn off sliced encoding I tend to get a mottled mess.

What is strange is how the lines gets worse over time. Going to F10 sometimes fixes it for a few minutes. The error seems to stay even after the missing data is no longer an issue.

Hopefully they will look at this years old issue soon. It used to alos happen with my Q2 on a different system.

Thanks again

Miles

That's strange. For me turning off sliced encoding removed that black or grey bar across the screen. It came up after a few minutes of flying. Really weird and annoying. With it turned off I still get a good resolution and don't have the mottled effect you refer to.

This is an old post; However, I'm on my 5th Quest 3, all have had the same issue and Meta won't help me out. All they do is have me hard reset the headset, then when that doesn't work, they have me factory reset, same results.

Mine had a transparent red or white piece that covers the lower 1/2 of the screens. The only way to stop it is to reboot my PC. I've even gone as far as upgrading my PC from intel to AMD 9800X3D. Same result.

Similar problem here. My Q3 has a gray, transsparent, horizontal bar in DCS. It appears on the upper half of my screen and is approx. 1/4 of the view. It occurs after playing for a while.

There are similar problems described on the web. But no universal solution.

I see something similar with quadviews enabled. I adjusted my quadviews setting to minimize it. If you are using quadviews, dry disabling in DCS and see if the transparent bars are still there.

I had this with my quest 2 and now quest 3 on two different PC builds. It seems to be triggered when going into a menu mid game but for me, I've never seen it in DCS. It's a bug that's been reported a long time ago -

Solved: White horizontal stripe across screen while using link

Those 'fixes' are out of date because you can change sliced encoding from the ODT. Disabling sliced encoding increases the latency.
