Joker Shadow Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Hey everyone, I'm planning to upgrade my GPU from 8 GB 3060Ti to 24 GB 7900XTX only to get better performance flying in DCS in my Quest 3 (steady 90 FPS and excellent quality) I did an extensive search, and I found mixed results! Apparently, in some cases, having an AMD CPU helps the AMD GPU boost their performance and most of the negative reviews come from Intel CPUs, but couldn't find any tests for DCS to compare My specs are as below: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 5.4GHz 40MB (8-Core) Memory: 64 GB RAM (2x 32GB 6000MHz DDR5) SSD: 2x 2TB Kingstone KC3000 M.2 NVMe 7000MB/s
CptBligh Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 @TED is the only active poster I recall with a 7900 and he likes it. Several of us have 6900s that have been fine, but I think it's general agreement with most that team green is better at VR. I'm looking at grabbing a 4080/4090 for use with Varjo Aero since my Reverb died and Varjo doesn't support AMD. MSI Z690 Edge | 12700k | 64GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 4080 Super | Varjo Aero
Tomcat388th Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 A couple of our squad members are running the earlier 7000 series gpu's and have been happy with them in vr. I've been using a 6950xt for a couple of months now with my Quest Pro. I pretty well have everything locked in at 72fps these screen shots dont do it justice for what I see in VR J 1 Ryzen7 5800X3D. 64 gb ram, 6950XT 16gb, Winwing Orion F18, MFG Crosswind Rudder, 42 inch lg tv, Quest PRO USN VF31 F14A AE2 1985-1989 CV 59 NAS Oceana IL ANG 183FW/170FS F16C Block 30 Big Mouth 1989-2006 Full time tech Retired E8
wormeaten Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 This video should give you all the answers. It is Pico 4 so almost the same setup performances like on Q3. 1
TED Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 As @CptBligh mentioned, I'm also using a 7900xtx (with 5800x3d cpu) and I'm extremely happy. Cutrently using a pico 4, but was also using a pimax 8kx. I fly mostly dcs liberation/retribution campaigns, so very busy with assets and effects. I have godlike resolution on pico, textures high, shadows on, and most of the dvs settings high. It all works and looks very good. A lot has improved this year as well with the dcs engine and multi threading helped a lot. I actually prefer to use it a 90hz on the headset and then lock 45fps in dcs settings. It seems that this gives me the smoothest game play, although by turning down a few things I could easily maintain 72fps but I like all the visual effects to he there. 2
Falconeer Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I have a 7900XT with a 5800X3d. My VR set is a Quest 2 and i'm very happy with this setup. Like above, im running the headset on 90 Hz, but don't have it locked at any FPS, as i don't have had much time for finding perfect settings and flying due to work. So far i have most settings maxed and my system handles it pretty well 2 Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper Afghanistan F-15E Strike Eagle Kola Peninsula Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat F-4E Phantom

I ended up becoming too OCD about micro stutters and this helped. Probably very much mostly in my own head now too . Edited January 2, 2024 by TED

I have most graphics settings maxed out, running at 1.0 res scaling, and with foveated rendering, I'm getting 70-80 FPS in most situations (except busy airports). So you should not encounter any bottlenecks with this GPU using Q3. 1
Joker Shadow Posted January 10, 2024 Author Posted January 10, 2024 thank you, everyone, for sharing your experiences. I think I have more confidence to buy AMD 7900 XTX according to your comments On 1/2/2024 at 12:51 AM, wormeaten said: This video should give you all the answers.
