Migration to new computer

Hey all, I have a new computer on the way.  If I just copy my DCS folder in my Saved Games folder will that keep my joystick binds?

I'm also trying to figure out where my headtracking data is - I'm using opentrack.

Yes you can copy over your Saved Games folder. A new PC or Windows version might rename your controllers though. I ended up just remapping mine. There might be a trick to handling that though.

It won't because USB IDs for your controllers will be different on new computer and thus it won't recognize old IDs contained in filenames from your copied backup.

You can, however, just import old profiles one by one, in controls options window ("load profile" button or whatever it's called?). Will take you a few minutes total, certainly faster than re-binding from scratch. Been there done that when switching to new PC myself.

Or, you can use an app to batch rename all of the configuration files in close to one step.

How can one find out what new IDs should be on a clean new computer and fresh Windows without any new diff.luas at hand? Honest question, 'cause I'll be upgrading my PC in two years or so as well.

Launching DCS and making one change per each controller would do the trick I guess, but that alone takes many minutes of clicking. Then googling around for some batch rename app and learning how to use it is extra 30 minutes at least.

Last times i used Samsung Data Migration successfully, as i had an SSD to larger SSD transfer.

But maybe it's better to move your SavedGames first out of the users folders to a different drive(USB external?). You van always copy it back.

PS do that via windows and properties, other wise it won't work, and the whole DCS you can put anywhere, i have both on a different drive, bu that's no laptop.

ADDED i also saved all my settings to a separate folder i made called it 'DCS settings and profiles' as backup, some work but saved me doing it all again ...

I just rebound all my controls manually. For maybe 5 modules I use regularly. It’s not as much work as it sounds like. If I owned and used every DCS module I guess that would be an ordeal.
