Non-frangible approach lighting at Aleppo

Recommended Posts

The approach lighting at Aleppo RWY 27 goes all the way up to the piano keys. And if you clip it you die instantly. I know ED 'owns' the damage models (in this case for the F-16), but any fittings on airfields are supposed to be frangible. And approach lights should finish before the sealed surface of the runway starts anyway. Pics attached. You can see the crater in the runway I made with my last aircraft.

PS I love the Syria map! Thanks Ugra.

Hi.

Similar approach lights situations are seen in Cyprus. How about them ?

If you’re clipping those approach lights, you’re coming in WAY too low.

The aim point during the approach and landing should be the markings at approximately 1000ft from the threshold. In the above image, there are the rectangular markings, 3rd from the threshold.

Also, there are plenty of places around the world where raised approach lights continue onto the sealed surface, right up to the threshold, as you can see below. (Not the greatest image to illustrate my point, but it’s the first I found with a quick search.)

Nah not really. Your example is for a TEMPORARY installation. That's a completely different scenario.

Yes places do exist with light installations raised on paved surfaces, but they are extremely rare and different to what Ugra shows on their airports.
