Double Dutch Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Hi, I watched Wags video of the sidewinder training and when he locks the first plane, his sidewinder gives indeed a distinct tone. When I do the training I do not get the same tone but the sidewinder does take the plane down. - is there something wrong with the training? (unlikely) - am i doing something wrong? (likely) Suggestions please? Ps. I hope this is the right section for FA18 questions. It does not really fit with the name of the folder structure. ----- Don't practise till you got it right. Practise till you don't do it wrong
unlikely_spider Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 (edited) There's one tone for when it's locked, and another when you uncage the seeker head. Are you uncaging? Edited January 27, 2024 by unlikely_spider 1 Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1
Wroblowaty Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Also AIM-9X has slightly different tones than the older variants. 1
bonesvf103 Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 (edited) There are 3 tones. The "by default" tone, the low, rumbling growl is the standby looking for targets tone. The slightly higher pitch tone means that it sees *something* in the seeker--which is good enough for a kill, but the really high pitched tone means it DEFINITELY sees a distinct IR target and thus an even better PK. v6, boNes Edited January 29, 2024 by bonesvf103 "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. Chaffee Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 (edited) Sensor button up to get the helmet to "boresight" a radar lock (WVR off-boresight) turns that seeker head into the Eye of Sauron. Works for me, anyway. You won't mistake that 9X tone. Edited February 5, 2024 by Chaffee If you have not produced an official manual, it's costing you sales.
