Kuky Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 TrackIR is really nice too have.. help with imersion a lot and makes looking around very natural (once you get used to it). I have it and recomend it. About TH2G... if you have lot of money (you also need 3 monitors) go for it :D PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
pbsmgm Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 (edited) ok, I'll just focus on a multi-monitor issue here......How about letting me explain it this way: I do have three monitors and the center monitor is a really nice Dell 27". However, monitor 2 and 3 are nice too but different sizes 24" and 20". I do have a really nice video card the ATI 4870X2 2GB with two DVI ports. Currently, I have the 27" on DVI 1 and the 24" on DVI 2. I have seen other threads where nobody seems to be able to get the cockpit on monitor 1 and the Shkval and/or ABRIS on monitor 2. I believe in Vista, the only option is to extend the monitor. So maybe that is the problem because I cannot get it to work in BS Options and activate the cockpit/Shkval to be on separate screens. That is all I really need right now is to toggle between the Shkval and the ABRIS on my second 24" monitor. So basically, does anyone have any advice as to the best way to do that since it doesn't seem to work via the cofig options in the DCS:BS? Skydoc Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 (edited) If I understand you correctly, you want the standard cockpit view on the big center monitor and skval/ABRIS on the one side monitor? In Vista? That is what I fly right now, with TIR4 in the cockpit view and it works great! There are multiple forum threads on this. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39835 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39799 Will get you started, do a search as well. You will need to run the game in windowed mode so that may knock down your FPS a bit, but I have almost the same system as you (minus the OC) and it works fine. Also get yourself an affinity tool like PriFinnity to make use of at least two of your 8 cores. Oh and your original query: I would go with TIR4 only and hold off on TH2Go until you buy your second 4870x2, which may be soon as prices drop... HTH Edited April 12, 2009 by Skydoc . Skydoc, out! Sharkster64 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 (edited) I just tried a friends Track IR and was very disapointed in it. I use a program called cachya that utilizes a webcam to track head movements and its only 14 bucks. The cachya program seemed to me, to be more accurate with head movements than Track IR. When I was using Track IR the display was bouncing around alot and I couldn't look up very well. It only went so high. It wasn't very smooth at all. It was smooth occasionally, but then it would just start bouncing around again like crazy. I had to recenter the view 8 times in a very short flight. I almost crashed three times because the view all of a sudden just looked down and to the right on its own. My Cachya program is very fluid in its movements and I can look where ever I want. I get the occasional bounciness with cachya, depending on how much light is in the room, but all in all it seem to run alot better to me than Track IR. I was a little disapointed in it because I thought that for 200 bucks, the program should work flawlessly. Unfortunately, thats not the case. Don't waste your money on track IR guys, when you can get other programs out there that work just as well, if not better for alot cheaper, such as Cachya or Freetrack. I repeat, don't waste your money!! :pilotfly: Cachya only requires a Webcam, and the Cachya program which is $14.99 I believe Freetrack is a free program that uses a webcam as well. But it requires some materials that bring it over the $14.99 mark as far as I know. Edited April 12, 2009 by Sharkster64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Warhammer
advent_m Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It could be that you were using TIR with a custom profile. I use the default profile in both DCS and FF5, and it works like a charm. The key for efficient use is to understand that the thing isn't working in a linear manner. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kuky Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 When I first tried TrackIR from a friend I was disapointed too... somehow decided to get one about 1 year later I tried it the first time... again I did not like it, but some 1-2 weeks of playing to get my profile the way it suits me and getting used to the thing... never ever looked back or ever thought not to use it. I love the TrackIR and find it on top of the list for flight sims along with good HOTAS. I love the TrackIR and find it on top of the list for flight sims along with good HOTAS. It wasn't that I wasn't used to it. I've been using Cachya for 2 months and have gotten the hang of the 6dof no problem. It works the same as Track IR. The thing I found with Track IR, is that it wasn't better than Cachya or Freetrack. I expected that since TrackIR was almost $200, that it would be far superior to the Cachya program. And after testing TrackIR, I was very disappointed in how well it worked. I think they are charging way too much for their product when there are other alternatives out there that are WAY cheaper. And what you said about creating a profile to get it the way you want, it is the same with Cachya. I had to fiddle with it for about 2 hours to get it to the point where it works almost flawless. My buddy has had his for a while so hes already got his profile figured out. It still did not work better than my Cachya, and I use Cachya in a brighter room. I played with his setup for a while and the TrackIR was bouncing all over the place and not looking where I wanted to half of the time. I never have to reset the view to center when using Cachya. It always brings my view back to center when I look forward. I had to reset the view to center like 8 times when I was using the Track IR setup. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Call Sign: Warhammer
Yskonyn Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 The question about what you *need* is rather personal I think, but; Top hardware I'd recommend; 1) a decent HOTAS 2) Track IR A multimonitor setup I can do without. Besides I hate it when my desk gets cluttered. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus Z390-E, 32GB Crucial Ballistix 2400Mhz, Intel i7 9700K 5.0Ghz, Asus GTX1080 8GB, SoundBlaster AE-5, G15, Streamdeck, DSD Flight, TM Warthog, VirPil BRD, MFG Crosswind CAM5, TrackIR 5, KW-908 Jetseat, Win 10 64-bit ”Pilots do not get paid for what they do daily, but they get paid for what they are capable of doing. hassata Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Plus multimonitor right now=fps drop, and that is anthema to me now. Don't know if it will be fixed in the patch. However touchbuddy and a touch screen is nice. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hannibal Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I would like to know if purchasing the TrackIR and/or the TripleHead2Go is: 1) Worth every penny and are a MUST have 2) You can get by without them, but you will suffer greatly in the simulation experience 3) Don't waste your money i have both. comments on TrackIR... i thin you should try it before you buy it..maybe mess around with free Track... most people went trackIR and cant go with out...myself, i not used to it, i try to get used to it, but i get disoriented, tried many settings..so now it is just collecting dust. comments on TH2G... if your specifically using TH2G for black shark, you should be good, but it ultimately depends on your config... obviously, one wants to set the camera view (in game cockpit) to the three monitors.. but some people like to have a dedicated monitor for shkval & ABRIS.. so that might mean u need a 4th monitor on top of the triple head... i dont know how you want to set it up.. maybe 2monitors for cockpit view, and 3rd for shkval&ABRIS.. BUT BEWARE... the resolution will be ALOT.. so i think a high end GFX is recommended if you intend to run 5040x1050.. PLUS, TH2G is particular with monitors.. if u want the max 5040x1050, the monitor has to be able to run at 57Hz which not all monitors support (typical LCD = 60Hz) again my TH2G is collecting dust (i am not playing Black Shark at the moment), it collect dust currently, because ALOT of games do NOT allow you to adjust FOV i mainly play lock on, with correct FOV butt TH2G is unstable when i zoom out, and FPS is horrible. bah, so i went back to one 46" LCD. so.. trackIR, suggest u try it out. th2g, u have to figure out what is your intended setup before u by.. find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
