A new release has been published.

  • Controller now responds to your radio checks with a less confusing message when it heard you but can't see you on the radar scope (e.g. because you're still starting your aircraft on the ramp)
  • Slight improvements to speech recognition quality
  • Controller will no longer respond to your DECLARE or SNAPLOCK calls with a declaration for your own aircraft
  • Player's guide updated with recommendation to avoid callsigns that sound kind of like numbers (e.g. "Knight"/"Nine")
  • Minor updates to documentation and various internal improvements

A new release has been published. There aren't any massive features in this one, but rather some minor fixes, improvements, and an interesting new companion tool for autoscaling. A private squadron is running SkyEye in their weekly missions for only around $1.50 USD/month by using this autoscaler.

  • SRS' secure coalition radios/coalition audio security is now supported. Note this is not an actual security feature (hence why SkyEye was effectively bypassing it before this version), it is a roleplaying feature only.
  • PICTURE requests no longer require callers to provide their callsign.
  • Tweaks to the bot's pronunciation based on SME feedback.
  • Tweaks to speech recognition based on playtesting.
  • An autoscaler companion tool has been added which can be used to trigger creating or destroying a SkyEye cloud instance as needed, significantly reducing hosting costs. See the documentation in the admin guide for details.
  • On Windows, WinSW is now bundled for service management, replacing the PowerShell wrapper script.
  • A configuration flag has been added which redacts non-essential STT transcriptions from the logs.

Hi! Great work with this! I have just installed it on my server. I'm using the docker container and wanted it to work in a PvP scenario, so Im running two instances of the container. Is there any plans to implement line-of-sight restrictions?

@intruder11
I've attempted to install the application on my group's windows box, but I am getting the following in a command prompt:

C:\Users\admin\DCSSkyeye>winsw.exe install skyeye-service.yaml
2024-12-03 13:01:35,663 FATAL - Unhandled exception
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Unable to locate winsw.[xml|yml] file within executable directory
   at WinSW.Program.LoadConfigAndInitLoggers(Boolean inConsoleMode)
   at WinSW.Program.Run(String[] argsArray, IServiceConfig config)
   at WinSW.Program.Main(String[] args)

C:\Users\admin\DCSSkyeye>

Is there a step I am missing with the winsw.exe application?

Turbine opened a bug report on GitHub, which helped uncovered a pair of bugs in the Windows release fixed in 0.13.2. Reminder: I don't monitor the forums, open bug reports on GitHub to receive a timely response.

See the above newsletter - I'm working on a solution for LOS restrictions but it won't be available until next year.

A new patch release has been published. This contains some fixes for handling certain cases that may occur in TacView data.

Hi, this looks interesting! Is this still the latest version?

As a suggestion, maybe put the link to the latest version in the OP so it's not buried in the comments. 🙂

Thanks again!

Since the Flashpoint Levant launch I've been continuously releasing new versions; the latest version is available at https://github.com/dharmab/skyeye/releases, and the sample cloud-config provided in the repo by default pulls the latest version and runs it as a container image. The release pace is too fast for me to update this thread every single time.

I was literally thinking about this kind of topic on the way to the office this morning.

Sounds awesome.  Very much what we need for cold war scenarios.

Perfect! Any chance of putting that link in the first post?

Thanks for your work!

I've released v1.1.0, which add an option to use OpenAI's Audio Transcription API as an alternative to running speech recognition locally. The documentation has also been updated with a another quickstart guide for running SkyEye on Windows alongside DCS using the OpenAI API.

I've released v1.1.3.

  • Improve parsing of longer multi-word request keywords like BOGEY DOPE and ALPHA CHECK
  • Fix an issue with parsing SPIKED requests, parsing of these should be more lenient
  • SPIKED responses now have the correct fill-ins
  • If a player requests a DECLARE but didn't explicitly specify BULLSEYE or BRAA, the controller will now read back the BULLSEYE coordinate to hint the player that BULLSEYE is assumed.
  • Other minor improvements to parser

I've released v1.1.4. This contains a notable change - clan/unit tags within callsigns are now ignored. For example, "[ISAF] Mobius 1" was previously parsed as "ISAF Mobius 1", and is now parsed as "Mobius 1".

Other changes:
- DECLARE responses now include fill-ins. Most notable, FURBALL responses will now include the number of friendlies and hostiles in the furball.
- Reduced how often the warning message is logged about SkyEye's IGRF model (magnetic declination correction) in missions set in 2024 and later. (This isn't a problem at this time because DCS World only uses data through 2022, but could be a problem if ED ever ships new data.)
- Minor improvements to parser.
