Mike_CK Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 (edited) Everything had been working great….and then I got an automatic update from my oculus quest 2 software. Updated and Now I get a different looking “room” when I fire it up. Used to be three windows with various stuff (no background) and I would load DCS from the steam window on my desktop w/ mouse. Now it’s one window in my VR and I see DCS and Steam VR listed in it (weren’t before) Either way, I press “play” on steam to load DCS (like I’ve always done) and while it starts and gives me the NVidea page and then the DCS loading screen…it just…stops…after a few seconds and the loading window disappears. The steam DCS screen goes from “stop playing” to “play” again. If I click it again, same thing. I tried starting it from VR, I tried switching from MT to Steam Vr MT and Oculus MT in steam. Same I even tried loading DCS without any VR stuff on and it won’t load there either. I tried a different steam game and it loaded fine; just DCS. Like I said though, even with VR stuff off, it still won’t load past a few seconds of the initial screen. I tried restarting twice but same. Any ideas? Edited March 25, 2024 by Mike_CK
Flappie Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 Try this workaround: More info about your issue here: ---
Mike_CK Posted March 25, 2024 Author Posted March 25, 2024 How do I “roll back” on my oculus 2? I don’t have an app on my phone or something but I have the oculus 2 software on my computer … (I tried reading the link but it’s beyond me. Saying “roll back” isn’t a help if I don’t know how to Maybe this. Until oculus fixes it, I can play in track iR. Problem is that I have “enable VR” set in game and i can’t open the game to change it. Is there a file I can modify?
Mike_CK Posted March 25, 2024 Author Posted March 25, 2024 (edited) Tried this ”4. set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime (sorry i dont know the correct english term) and i don't know about the "Meta Plugin Compatibility". i had it "off" in my quick test.” but now my oculus won’t “talk”’to my computer. Got a notice on oculus that my runtime wasn’t set to openxr. Wouldn’t let me Change anything though Now in steam VR where I clicked the openxr thing, it went back to “manage openxr API layer- 0’active” wont let me go back to what it was before. So now I can’t get my headset to talk to oculus. Arrrfggg says “no open XR API layers installed Edited March 25, 2024 by Mike_CK
NIGHTHAWK1 Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 i have the same problem, steam, quest vr, tried a lot of different things. I did note that steam is experiencing a lot of problems right now. Is it possible that steam is the problem right now? I am going to wait a few hours and try again. I am on V62 in quest still. I-9 12900K, RTX 3090, 64 GB, 2TB SSD, Oculus Quest 2, Win 11, Winwing Orion F-16EX Stick, F-18 dual throttle, Thrustmaster TPR pedals.

Mike_CK Posted March 25, 2024 Author Posted March 25, 2024 I hope so. Now my headset won’t talk b/c it says no openvr after I made this change in the steam VR. I clicked it, it went to something else, but now my oculus won’t read my headset, game me a notice about “no open XR”. ””4. set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime “ Tried opening steam VR to change back and it just says ”no open XR API layers installed” Is there a file where I can “unselect” “enable VR” Without having to open the game? It won’t open at all even if I try in desktop so o guess it still thinks I’m in Vr i messed things up on steam VR making that change I tried the workaround in the post above now my headset won’t talk to the software, I get a notice about no open XR and I can’t switch back!
Mike_CK Posted March 26, 2024 Author Posted March 26, 2024 Got it back to “normal” but workaround doesn’t work for me. Seems problem is well known and META denies any responsibility. if i can figure out how to “un-enable VR” without opening the game, I will play pancakes
rob10 Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 No idea if this works in Steam, but this would be normal advice.
Mike_CK Posted March 26, 2024 Author Posted March 26, 2024 Thanks. Don’t think I can play in 2d anymore. Lost all immersion in that awhile ago. Have to wait for ED to put out a fix
chandawg1 Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 (edited) I have the same problem. I updated my quest2, and now I can't play DCS in VR. I am currently doing a "long" repair. Which will probably not work. Hopefully, someone fixes something. Will give pancake a go, it isn't too bad with track IR but Mike_CK is right, there isn't anything like VR for emersion Edited March 26, 2024 by chandawg1
Mike_CK Posted March 26, 2024 Author Posted March 26, 2024 It won’t likely work. Meta put out a notice (and ED confirmed) that the version 63 update won’t work with DCS openXR. personally, the new oculus update messed up more than DCS. Now, when I start up oculus, it asks me to confirm my boundary and then I get a notice about signing in. I have to unplug my link and plug back in to get the “enable link” option. Just classic example of “fixing” something that was working just fine

Mike_CK Posted March 26, 2024 Author Posted March 26, 2024 Did it change your oculus Home Screen from the 3 windows to two?

Have a look in the game crash section - I posts a link to fix there. It consists of manually installing the previous oculus patch files. Works for me and a bunch of others.
Go-Go Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 F a workaround, fix it, do your job developers..you've known about the issue since Feb when users brought it up and hesitated to act. Now Metas jacked up update rolled out we, your customers are up a creek. No recent hot fixes, failure to announce or act on the Meta update. Lazy or incompetent? Or I guess you can still blame COVID. Sorry MF's!

I don’t really know what I’m doing. I don’t mind pancake for now
BCush83 Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 2D is gross...walkaround didn't work for me. I had to unplug the headset and uninstall the software entirely for it to make it past the splash screen. I dont use steam...just normal download..Rift S. Kind of thinking it's upgrade time...is anyone having this problem with something like the Pimax or anything else that is considered an upgrade from the rift s (everything I imagine by now)

Any device NOT using Oculus is fine.
