sbk93036 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Obviously you guys like Lock On, but is it worth my time to buy it? Have Falcon 4.0 AF and think it pretty much blows. Lock On's graphics good? Worth a purchase? -Nighthawk- Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Want a fun / semi-realistic Fighter Jet game? LOMAC is just for you. Besides, it doesn't cost much anyway.
Distiler Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 The feeling I get is the flight model is very bad (compared to old il2 series for example, not to mention dcs:ka-50. Even FS9-FSX feels a bit better). Only Su-25 and Su25-T have very good flight model. I might be wrong, but this is the feeling I get. But the reality is LockOn is gonna stay until DCS a-10,f-15,mig-29, etc modules appear in market, so there is and will be a lot of people playing it. If they only could upgrade flight model a bit I would enjoy flying it :( AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Napa Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Why would they support LockOn if they want to sell DCS now?? Intel i7 12700k / Corsair H150i Elite Capellix / Asus TUF Z690 Wifi D4 / Corsair Dominator 32GB 3200Mhz / Corsair HW1000W / 1x Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 500Gb + 1 Corsair MP600 1TB / ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080 OC V2 / Fractal Design Meshify 2 / HOTAS Warthog / TFRP Rudder / TrackIR 5 / Dell U2515h 25" Monitor 1440p
Distiler Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Because the community still supports LockOn and will continue supporting as long as there is no substitute in DCS for the planes people like to fly. And because of the above, LockOn is still selling very well. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Sulman Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 The feeling I get is the flight model is very bad (compared to old il2 series for example, not to mention dcs:ka-50. Even FS9-FSX feels a bit better). Only Su-25 and Su25-T have very good flight model. I might be wrong, but this is the feeling I get. I don't quite understand this argument about the flight model. Even the 'non-afm' flight models do an excellent job of conveying feel; it's pretty much what the series has sold on since Flanker 1.0. The AFM is of course great for the SU25; but I don't find the SU27 or '29 deficient; in fact they're really enjoyable to haul around, and are not that easy to fly precisely and smoothly. FSX/FS9 aircraft by contrast can feel like they're on rails, even if the numbers are correct. In terms of fidelity, I still find Lomac a considerable challenge; survivability - until you have invested the time to train yourself - isn't easy. The AI may not be brilliant but it is relentless, and will punish mistakes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Boberro Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 If you wanna good shooter-semi realistic flying game, yes it is worth many money. This game can give you many funny moments and you will be probably happy with this product. But if you are waiting for simulator yo can be disappointed. Anyway whatever you want your duty is to try it and decide to buy ir or not to buy :D Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
-Nighthawk- Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Sure, as more DCS modules are released it will eventually replace LOMAC, but the physics involved in the aircraft are far superior then most other games. It is not an "arcade" type game like HAWX. FSX is only more realistic in smaller aircraft (and even then it's completely different in real life ;) )
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 You can still find Lockon at bargain prices on Ebay in many countries. I paid full price when it came out. The best value for money of any PC game/Sim I ever bought. Five years on - I still fly it, am still learning, still having fun, still have to force myself to quit because I realised it is 01:00a.m. It still makes non-computer friends who've never seen it go "Wow!". Kula66 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 On a £/hr basis it is probably the best money I have ever spent! It has its faults - some major like missile modelling, but I still sit there thinking what a great sim this is visually, even low down and on current h/w you can crank all the graphics up and get good FPS. Shame self shadow no longer works - video driver problem from what I can gather. I've gone back to LO after getting board with BS ... highly recommended.
Ross-impress Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Agree!! Worth every penny, 5 times. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Shame self shadow no longer works - video driver problem from what I can gather. My understanding is that this is due to video card manufacturers not making their newer cards (and drivers) fully backward compatable with earlier versions of DirectX. Vekkinho Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Believe me, all SFM in Lock On, feel much better than so called AFM in other flight sim(s)! So yeah, go get LOMAC, upgrade it with FC and choke on it like rest of us! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kula66 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 My understanding is that this is due to video card manufacturers not making their newer cards (and drivers) fully backward compatable with earlier versions of DirectX. Agreed - shame really, that used to look stunning ...
