muamshai Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hello, There's one annoying problem. I searched for the solution, and unable to find any. Hence, my post. While playing (and not using keyboard and mouse, only joystick), my monitor goes to standby. What might be the reason? Atleast when I see movies from DVD, my monitor doesn't do so. If it is a problem faced by many people, will there be a patch/word around to address this problem? I don't want to disable standby opinion by going to power settings in Windows. I would like to have the same facility as video players provide. Thansk in advance :) This space is available for your advertisement
Boberro Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 To be honest I first time see problem like that in BS. Isn't your GPU overheated or feeder? I had this problem but only one time in the past when I played FPP game, don't remember what it was. I was lucky cos I changed my mobo, GPU and feeder to new and problem was solved. Maybe try turn off first standby in Windows, then try play. Tell if it will go again to standby (when it's disabled). Also tell me does it happen only in BS? Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
nemises Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Monitor going into standby cannot be controlled by an application , this can only be set in the OS. Something is screwy if your monitor is going into standby with an active application running.
muamshai Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 1. GPU is as cool as the dead body in morgue :) 2. The problem is only with BS. No problems with other applications while watching in full screen 3. Yes, when I turn off standby then it works 4. Monitor is ok. Lock On works without any problems I am using Windows 2008 x64 Standard edition. This space is available for your advertisement
Coolhnd1 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Try increasing the amount of time before the monitor goes to standby in the power settings. To tell you the truth there are few games I use including Black Shark where I don't use the mouse or keyboard at least occasionally. I generally have only have the most commonly used functions mapped to my HOSTAS. I'm always clicking on the ABRIS, looking at the map or clicking to setup my weapons as I approach enemy territory. -- CoolHand
EtherealN Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Have you verified that it's not the graphics driver getting an issue and restarting, and then not being fully capable of retaking "control" of the screen? When that happens on my machine (I tinker with a lot of overclocking so I tend to have drivers that freak out a little now and then when testing driver-level overclock settings) it looks as if the screen goes into standby, but it's actually a the driver having shut down and being in the process of restarting. So it could be the driver. I've also seen this same problem even when not overclocked on the GPU, in version 1.14 of ArmA. Never in BS though. Skydoc Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 muamshai- I have this problem as well and it seems related to continuous HOTAS use. The first couple of times I nearly tossed a clot in my brain because I was in the middle of an attack run when everything went black. I just hit one of the keyboard buttons (like an ABRIS related one) to get it back. Running Vista 64. . Skydoc, out! EtherealN Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Ah, yeah, if the computer doesn't react to HOTAS input the same way as key/mouse input (resetting the screensaver timer), that would definitely explain it. muamshai Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 yes skydoc. I was in the middle of lauching a Vikhr on an incoming Mi-24 and screen went to standby mode. The next thing I know is me is shot down by Shturm :( This space is available for your advertisement
redeagleGER Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Shouldnt a keyboard key which is mapped to joystick by hotas software just simulate a keyboard input --> no standby?!? If u programm your joystick only ingame then maybe just map one/some often used keyboard keys to the stick (e.g. trim) :) [sIGPIC]http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/5156/sig1ck8.jpg[/sIGPIC]
Skydoc Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I believe many of the newer joysticks/controllers are USB devices and recognized as non-keyboards, hence the problem. The key thing for me now is simply the recognition of the problem the instant it occurs and slamming the keyboard spacebar to recover before I eat dirt or become a fireball. . Skydoc, out! muamshai Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I'll try to map one key on SST which does nothing except keep the monitor awaken :) This space is available for your advertisement
Feuerfalke Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 You should configure Vista to use maximum performance and disable power-savings. This also seems to be the most effective fix for the graphics card crashes with the nvlddmkm-Error. Power-saving-routines from Windows and both, ATI and nVidia are conflicting. Sometimes it crashes completely, sometimes it's just like you described it. Check out the event-viewer, choose windows-protocols and check for system-reports to see if it is the nvlddmkm-Error for you, too, just to be sure.
