I'm a casual DCS player and have been enjoying the sim with my trusty xbox controller. I fly mostly the F16 and F18. But wanted to get into helicopters next and the AH-64D has peaked my interest for quite awhile. But I'm mainly concerned that since operating a heli is much different from a jet. Would I still be able to enjoy this module with a controller?

Yes it looks like this guy uses one. Maybe he has a guide somewhere.

Yes - it could be flown with an X-Box controller (and some have) - however YMMV is a key factor in this. What they are satisfied with, or the time, skill, etc that they put into it may differ from you.

It's a bit like air to air refueling. Some now say it's "easy" and enjoy it, while others say they can do it but it's still hard work, and they don't enjoy it, while others never master it no matter how much time they put into it. Personal ability, mindsets, and preferences is a key factor.

The best solution IMO would be to take out the 2 week trial, and give it a go for yourself. That will take all the guesswork out. ED have very generously and wisely granted us the ability to try modules for 2 weeks to see whether we're happy with it - I'd suggest you take advantage of that opportunity. It'll give you the best idea compared to us randoms saying 'yes' or 'no'. 😉

I have to imagine it’s possible. Anything is possible with enough effort. But a simple cheap twist joystick would be so much easier. A gamepad does work really well for the TEDAC.

The biggest problem I would have with a gamepad is the inverted Y-axis since I used them a lot for FPS games. That’s a reflex you can’t unlearn 😬

Adding a gamepad for the countless complex controls and several sticks and buttons of the TADS is a great idea!!

I simply don´t have enough coolie hats on my HOTAS (plus none of them are analog) for the complex TADS - adding a joypad would add two perfectly fine analog coolie hats.
