Basically, meta sell their headsets below market cost with the hope we will buy into the meta-verse. The solution. Buy the hardware. Ignore the software. Then it f***ks up their plans! Especially if you buy a used QP from a disillusioned "metaversee". 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
Aapje Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 (edited) Well, I think that I more or less know what Valve are working on and it may not be that great for PCVR players (think Steam Deck, but VR). Edited April 19, 2024 by Aapje
Dogmanbird Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 i'm amazed at what meta has achieved with the q3 for it's price when compared to the other headsets. I'd even be happy with a 'display port only' version of a Q3 packed into the reverb g2 housing, for q3 price.

However, I think they sell them lower than true value with the aim of recouping money via the meta store and meta verse. For PCVR players it's a very good deal. Especially if you don't use meta software. Unfortunately, I don't think meta would release a DP only version. That vision died with the rift s. 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).

In reality it has got worse because of no DP support since the rift s. OpenXR 1.1 enabled implementation of QVFR but this is something that meta do not appear to be interested in. This is not about headsets. The Quest Pro and Quest 3 are great headsets. It is about how meta support PCVR. What can we do to get meta to listen and give us a better PCVR experience? I upgraded from my Rift s to a Quest 3 for PCVR the day it released and it's been nothing short of a nightmare. I have spent more hours troubleshooting than actually playing games and that's no BS. Every update they release screws up air link. I finally gave in and purchased virtual desktop and that worked fine until the last update and now that's broken. It's just a mess when it comes to PCVR. Now DCS is just a micro stuttering hell and I'm tired of wasting hours getting it dialed in only to have it broken again with the next update. I'm pretty much shelving my Quest for PCVR at this point. We can only hope that Valve releases a new Index in the not too distant future because there is no future in PCVR gaming with Meta.

Sorry you are having such a crap time. I wonder why VD is not working for you. Have you asked for help in the VD discord server? In terms of PCVR dedicated headsets the pimax crystal light looks interesting. 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).

Not sure if it was the latest DCS update or Meta that's causing it. Before the latest update I had SSW enabled in VD which seemed to smooth out the micro stutters. But now the screen bounces so I had to disable it. Micro stutter is so bad it's not playable. Also, I'm stuck in the floor on my PC oculus games when I use VD. Resetting the view in the Quest 3 has no affect. The Quest 3 is just a disaster for PC gaming. Huge disappointment.

nessuno0505 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I think meta is aiming at selling a standard software, eventually halting hardware production and having only 3rd party to produce headsets (Asus ROG, Lenovo and such). It does not mean we won't have good headsets both for standalone and PCVR. Sony itself (the queen of monopoly) is adding PCVR to playstation VR headset. If there's room for making money even meta will improve its PCVR. That said, my quest 3 (bought recently because my reverb g2 broke) is fine for PCVR. Tested only with link cable since my router is far away from my PC and it's not wifi 6e. I could buy a wifi 6e router, but for now I'm ok with the USB cable.

nessuno0505 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 (edited) Agree. There's windows for PC, Android for phones but still no unified OS for VR headsets. It's not granted they succeed. Edited April 23, 2024 by nessuno0505
Aapje Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 SadlyItsBradley thinks that this is because they fear Apple and want to build an alliance against them. The good news for PCVR users is that Meta doesn't really care about PCVR, so they have little incentive to ask a lot of licensing money from a niche vendor that targets weirdos like us.

The situation in smartphone-land is not that bad, with Google earning billions from Play Store sales, while consumers can easily switch between different hardware-brands, that all run Android. And you have Apple keeping Google honest and vice versa. Having something similar in VR-land would probably be better than the current situation, where Meta has a de facto monopoly, with all alternatives being extremely niche products and there being lots of walled gardens.
