Dogmanbird Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 I used one for a little while. It has vibrating motors (like in a phone etc) so it's fairly limited with regards to the types of effects it creates and the HF8 software (15months back) had limited telemetry from games for the control of the motors. It's not particularly comfortable after about an hour of use. I still think it's better than having nothing at all. Here in Aus it occasionally goes on sale at JB hifi for around $240 aud 1
Mk1_Trebuchet Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Used an HF8 for a while to test the waters of haptics. Worked well enough to convince me that I'll never play without haptics again - Especially as one who exclusively uses VR. I Ended up moving to a buttkicker (better IMHO) due to the discomfort from sitting on the pucks embedded in the seat after a long flight. 2 Asrock X870E Nova - AMD 9800x3d - RTX 4090 - 64GB DDR5 - (2x) Crucial T705 - Varjo Aero

I had the original ButtKicker, it was noisy as hell on the seat strut, got hot and would clip very easily (and the magnet inside would clatter loudly against its case). Dayton pucks became stupidly hot. I now have two big LFEs and they are superb. Powerful and next to no heat. I use a 700w amp to power them, with SimHaptic software. So cool to see these kind of "low-cost" innovative playseat solutions! Don't want to stray off topic, but I'm curious: how do you avoid the seat base from rolling backwards when it's in the forward position and you press the toe-brakes? 1 System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH

MADLOU1 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I recently stopped using my second HF8 pad. A speaker stopped working in a couple months in my first one. They sent me a second one under the warrantty and a speaker in that one stopped working after about 6 months. I could never get the HF8 software to work properly for any flight or racing game for either pad and the HF8 support didnt help at all. I now just use my old Buttkicker 2 which works 200 percent better. Also, I was never crazy about sittting on the HF8 seat pad. It's uncomfortable becaue of those hard speakers.

The seat is rolled back against a rail and the joystick is pulled back on its floor panel into the front and bolted so it can't slide forward when the rudder-pedals are pressed.
