Hi, I had a thread here:

In which we tried to identify why my previously very happy to run DCS in mission editor mode laptop will now not.......

I was hoping I could get a definitive answer regarding the machine specifications and why it used to run it fine and now wont? I have also doubled the ram since the issue. I cant do anythi8ng regarding the VRAM. Can anyone from ED say for sure that a recent update would have rendered the machine ineffective to run DCS? As if so, it is effectively useless to me, mission editing being its primary useage. Which is a shame, as it is a decent laptop otherwise.....

It does seem strange to me that it previously had no issues running the game. It starts DCS fine.

System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.

These are the minimum specs:

Quote

Minimum system requirements (LOW graphics settings): OS 64-bit Windows 10; DirectX11; CPU: Intel Core i3 at 2.8 GHz or AMD FX; RAM: 16 GB; Free hard disk space: 200 GB; Discrete video card NVIDIA/AMD 6GB; requires internet activation.

Your GTX 850M comes with only 2 GB of VRAM. That may explain why DCS cannot compile shaders on your PC. Try setting a bigger pagefile (init size: 32 GB, max size: 32 GB), but I'm not sure it will help VRAM.

Your CPU is 11 years old but I don't think it is the problem here.

Thanks mate, I did the page file thing, see other thread, but no difference. I just dont understand why, if it was an issue with the VRAM, I was able to run and use the machine ( not flying missions , but with no issues running mission editor...) for the last year or so with no issues ...this only started happening a couple of months ago now.......

You could try to revert to the DCS version prior to the update that started this problem, using the dcs_updater.exe utility.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar

Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

Problem with that is you may run into compatibility issues with the mission created if you're running current DCS on you main computer.

If you create the mission on the Laptop and not the main Computer, there should be no problem, as newer versions of DCS can open and use MIZ file created by older versions (but not necessarily the other way around) ... keep in mind that MIZ versions are changed much less often than DCS versions, the current version of MIZ files is #22.

Been away this weekend, just tried again, repair and running both ST & MT. Hangs in same place.

How do I roll back the DCS version? Might as well try that.....
