Badger633 Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 (edited) INTRODUCTION As the evening sun transformed into a glowing orange sphere balanced on the shimmering horizon, sharp black silhouettes of exotic palms smoothly, slowly, and silently drifted by as if on rails. The USS Abraham Lincoln gently but purposely eased its way North through the narrow Egyptian waters. They had just left Ismaila and had a further 50 miles before they would leave the Suez Canal and emerge into the Mediterranean via Port Said. The crews’ excitement was palpable, today the Admiral had declared a rare ‘Rest and Relaxation’ Day. The deck, or ‘Roof’ as it was known, was for once empty of hardware and instead full of crew members, some seeing daylight for the first time in weeks. The official protective clothing had gone and in its place a rainbow of leisure and sports gear. Some were exercising, some jogging, some with their tops off enthusiastically playing games, and some just standing, absorbing the beauty of a tropical sunset. As the shadows slowly stretched their fingers along the deck, the evening sky took on a crimson hue with just a hint of high-level cloud, silver wisps free in the upper winds. As the deck emptied and grew quiet Lieutenant Scott Waters, call sign ‘Ford’, standing on the edge watched the setting sun, he turned to his Wing Lieutenant Lee Anderson, call sign ‘Matrix’, “It doesn’t get much better than this my friend”, “Copy that skipper, it’s beautiful, we really needed this R&R after the Gulf, big time” he responded. “That’s an affirm, think we had both had enough by the end”. Flash back images of the final night hop over Bandar Abbas still vivid in their minds, the blinding flashes and explosions of triple A, the searing trails of AMMRAMs, Migs falling to earth like exploding meteors and the jubilation as their AGM65 Foxtrot missile found its target, and ‘Asad’ the IRCG Commander in Chief, obliterated in the ball of flame as it impacted, lighting up the hills for a mile around. Since then, with the collapse of the IRCG, the Gulf had become quiet once more. The USS Harry S Truman was now fully repaired, after its surprise attack by an Iranian submarine, and was now able to formally relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln as originally planned. Matrix had been desperate for a period of R&R, a fact which he reminded everyone on board who would listen, on a daily basis, and so secretly had Ford, although he would never admit it. The morale of the whole crew lifted as the Abraham Lincoln steamed back to its home in San Diego, even taking in a harbour stop on its way. It was, as they were passing South of Yemen, the signal landed from high command. The Admiral announced over the crackling speaker, “Things have changed”, he would immediately be setting course for Cyprus via the Suez Canal. It is late May 2016 and the U.S. as part of an international force are busy executing a war with ISIS in Syria within a complex cauldron of proxy forces. This, surprisingly, not the reason for the diversion to the Mediterranean. It has come as a request to the United States Government from NATO in connection with a developing situation in Cyprus. There had always been friction in Cyprus between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots. This, culminating in a full Turkish invasion in 1974 which secured almost half the island. The situation rapidly became a blood bath, the worlds governments and United Nations quickly became involved and brokered a peace settlement. This achieved by partitioning the island into two halves, the Greek Cypriots to the Southwest and the Turkish Cypriots to the Northeast. Separating the two is a wide strip of no man’s land operated by the United Nations extending from Larnaca Bay to the Northwest of the island passing through the capital city of Nicosia. This boundary now known locally as ‘The Green Line’. Over the last few months there has been insurgent/ terrorist activity on each side of the Green Line. These events growing in number and severity. The Greek and Turkish governments are both pointing the finger at each other and at the same time denying any involvement, relations are quickly deteriorating. To prevent a possible and embarrassing military action between two NATO members, both the United Nations and NATO have requested that the USS Abraham Lincoln move into the area. Its objectives are to monitor the situation, make its presence known and so defuse the current situation. Captain R L Ravelo of the USS Abraham Lincoln has christened this, ‘OPERATION GREEN LINE’. Wiggo Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 This campaing seems nice. I actually more or less learned to fly hornet with badgers campaigns, there has been before very nice learning curve, as there are those "designers notes" etc. In here I immediatly had feeling that I am more or less in the same learning curve. Have good feeling after 3 missions. No crying, no cursing. Seems nice, and totally worth the money, at least until this point nice one again Badger!

L4key Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Sorry Badger, can you point me in the direction of the printable briefs? Once again, awesome campaign, only on m3!
Badger633 Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 (edited) Hi @L4key You need to go into your C:/ programs / DCS folder not your saved games folder. Then head for mods then FA18C then campaigns then select the campaign and then documents should be briefs. Just copy and put them where you want they are pdfs. Away at the moment so not at my computer so all from memory so could be wrong. Basically the briefs are in the documents file of the campaign under the main DCS program files. gunhead9 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I'm always a bit surprised to read so many bug reports here in the forum, but rather less feedback on the actual campaign. My feedback: I don't regret buying and flying "Green Line." After countless campaigns, I was surprised by the very good and creative new scenes and tasks. Very well thought out, "Badger633." I particularly liked (compared to other campaigns) the clear commands and instructions provided by the voiceovers ("You take the left, I'll take the right Mig"), without long decision-making or F-10 selection. If I had to say what I missed or what I would like to see next time: 1. Some civil air traffic in the line I'm flying, any shipping when "feet wet", or even road traffic in the region I have to spot. (Like in the real world, the Abe is never the only ship in the Mediterranean, and the tanker/AWACS is never the only aircraft in the air with us). We flew over some of the busiest traffic routes in the world. 2. A little more life in Incirlik / Gaziantep / Aleppo / Hama In my opinion, the days of empty starting locations or target airports should be over. Installing a few infantrymen and trucks driving around would be enough. Incirlik with empty hangars is also strange. I think we all have enough powerful PCs. 3. Personally, it bothers me when a mission ends with a hard end ("You didn't shoot down the MIGs!") because you didn't achieve certain objectives. This doesn't happen in real life either. We're not playing an arcade game here, but a simulation. 4. Allow for mistakes! All the triggers worked; I didn't notice any serious errors. Radio messages rarely came in clusters or were late. But this didn't bother or affect me. However, some triggers simply didn't fire because I didn't do exactly what was expected. An example: Mission 12, my first GBU-12 missed. I hit the second target perfectly. However, I absolutely had to hit target one, but I didn't have any bombs left. There were no alternatives. Perhaps the wingman could have stepped in, or I could have reported aborting using the F10 option. So I had to fly the entire long mission again. 5. What else did I notice: Matrix was shot down once, but continued to talk to me until landing All in all, I had a lot of fun. Thanks again, Badger. Keep up the good work. There were some great moments that I'll remember for a long time (flying with the Reds, SLAM datalink, sneak-eye in a strong crosswind). Can someone tell me the ending? I, the idiot I am, flew into the tanker (without NVG) and didn't survive. To the question: "What next?": Anything, any time. But please not another Syria.
Badger633 Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Hi @gunhead9 Glad you enjoyed the campaign. Will bear your comments in mind. It's not true though that we all have top end powerful computers, especially when using high res VR. Fully loaded missions can be the difference between a smooth and slightly juddery experience for some. I generally have DCS traffic switched off as it looks stupid having the DCS traffic driving through the actual Road Convoys to be targeted or monitored in the missions. Generally I don't put too much activity in target destinations, although have done in the past campaigns, as sometimes that detail is very often lost through the TPod. The Missions from Incirilik all have other aircraft moving jeeps and personnel, have made sure all start locations are busy, although adding a few dormant aircraft in hangers is a good point and will introduce them. In a lot of the missions the wing does help out but is scripted not allow the player to just sit back and he kill all the bad guys for you. In the case of the last mission you would expect it to be less forgiving and beings the targets are buddy lazed for you you are expected to hit both targets. The fact you get a mission fail at that point is always an interesting dichotomy. Would you rather get a Mission fail at that point or would you rather run the full length of the mission land at the carrier and only then get a mission fail? Matrix should never get shot down as he is scripted to be immortal. He may well have gone AWOL as there have been some recent DCS bugs such as the recent, 'stuck in orbit' which is now fixed. If you have the details and track, or Tacview, of the mission could you please send it to me so I can check it out, as that should never happen. Thanks for your thoughts, and as I have said above, will bear them in mind for the next one. I always work hard to try to make them as good as they can be.
