Just been through the first three training missions. You guys have done an amazing job, what a masterpiece! Only been airborne for 10 minutes or so and just taking a break. The cockpit is a work of art, truly beautiful.....but I have one issue. In anything other than direct sunlight, there are a lot of areas and instruments that are extremely difficult to see in the gloom.....I could not for example read the course I was dialing in when climbing out on the take off mission and checking the position of many switches and dials is very tricky. Its not that they are not clear, ( Of course ergonomics is not great in the cockpit either...) everything is just very dark. The weathering while spectacular often dulls the contrast between the white lettering and the backgrounds. Great to look at, less great to use ! I imagine it is a massive job to change this and of course, I know only too well the ongoing back and forth on the similar subject regarding the F14 cockpit. ( I do use the modded VR version for extra clarity with that module) .

Anyway, back to the jet for some flight testing!

Thanks again for bringing this amazing icon to life for us!

I don't know how they will outdo this beautiful mass of code and texture, with whatever they bring us next. But, I'm sure they will, somehow!

This is how things should be irl, the cockpit is just mind blowing, the art work is out of this world and the amount, detail and realism of the weathering is just spot on, exactly what one would expect of such and aircraft. Irl it would be difficult to deal with certain cockpit interactios, just deal with it, is part of the fun, learn the layout and gain proficiency (or wait until someone do a new cockpit textures mod)... just that, but dont call "issue" what is not buddy. This is the closest to perfection a flight simulation has ever been, enjoy it!

Hb!, you guys are gods among us, amazing, out of this world work (as always!), THANKS!

Don't do VR, while I still had more or less the same "issue". Luckily I guessed correctly the light controls were somewhere down to the right, and low and behold! The labels were intact, and now I can see!
Cheers!

I love VR but it is far from my 61 year old real vision let alone what a fighter pilot is expected to have! the Phantom is brilliant but there is stuff you just can’t see in certain lighting in VR which I am pretty sure I would in the real cockpit.

AMD 5800X3D · MSI 4080 · Asus ROG Strix B550 Gaming  · HP Reverb Pro · 1Tb M.2 NVMe, 32Gb Corsair Vengence 3600MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · VIRPIL T-50CM3 Base, Alpha Prime R. VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Base. JetSeat

For some people, activating "Global cockpit illumination" option has helped with this issue. In my case I don't see any difference.

Even in daylight, cockpit is dark and worn out. Make it very hard to see in cockpit

Just turn on the flash light..

That way you can see the direction where you head look at and able to read white letter,

Much better than any texture mod ,

The art is mastered for the standard gamma setting, which is 2.2. There should be a huge warning sign in the options saying that changing that value may and will negatively impact user experience, which isn't DCS-specific. However, I can imagine that a bug unknown to us might make the cockpit too dark even with gamma set to 2.2 and global illumination on - but I'd kindly ask you to include in your reports your gamma settings, your global illumination settings and some example screenshots to better visualise the problems to our artists.

2.2 yes ok but I personally run lower as things look blown out in the world not a problem I will change to my liking.

This issue started with the change from 2.7->2.8 when they updated general light and illumination. Now we have more range, which I'm sure has a positive side, but my experience has been dark interiors and a completely washed outside most of the time.

For me 2.7 was the sweet spot.

I mean that, of course, everyone is free to run any value and adjust all effects to their liking. However, we must conform to the industry standards so we master everything to look as correct as possible for 2.2. That, of course, implies that if adjusting gamma settings will make dark things look darker, the cockpit may look darker as well when using those settings. I wouldn't call it a user error but a decision that has some consequences. You may say everything else looks too bright with the standard value of gamma, but that is beyond our control.
