lwalter Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 On my computer the F-4 module is very hard on FPS. Note that I'm in VR, but I don't have such issues with the other planes, including theTomcat or the Apache. What would be the most important settings to help me get some FPS back specifically for the F-4? (already downgraded textures to medium, removed all shadows, no anti-aliasing, and reduced to lowest almost all other settings). iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, i7 4 GHz, 32 GB RAM, AMD R9 M395X 4 GB | Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog | Cougar MFD | MFG Crosswind | EDTracker Pro | Realteus ForceFeel DCS World | Bf109 | Fw190 A8/D9 | P47 | P51 | Spitfire | I16 | C101 | L39 | F86F | MiG15 | MiG19 | MiG21 | FC3 | A10C | AJS37 | AV8BNA | F5 | F14 | F16 | F/A18 | M2000 | JF17 | Christen Eagle | Yak52 | SA342 | UH1H | Mi8 | Ka50 | Combined Arms | NS430 | Persian Gulf | Normandy | Channel | Syria | NTTR | WWII Assets
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 Things will improve over time during the EA period when ANVIL gets fully multithreaded. How much difference that will actually make remains to be seen. The DCS core improvements (especially Vulkan) will also make VR a lot more efficient, which should result in significant performance boosts. For more short-term results, I'd recommend reducing super sampling / resolution scaling if you really want more performance. This is not a DCS setting (unless you have PD > 1.0) but rather in WMR or whichever software your headset uses. Qcumber Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 I had issues with VR when I first tried the F4. I have noticed that performance is much more sensitive to number of assets in the ground compared to other modules. At altitudes above about 2000ft I get 72 fps in all maps. On the ground the performance takes a big hit if there are lots of aircraft in the ground. I set up a ground start on the Syria map in Israel with no ground assets and I got 72fps for most of the flight. DCS settings medium to high, MSAA x2, base meta link at 2700 pixels, QVFR 1.3 centre, 0.4 periphery. Clarity is very good in cockpit and landscape. I find that GPU load is more than with other modules. About 30% more than F-14 and 15% more than F-16. What headset are you using? 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
westr Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 It’s just how it is atm the difference in comparison to how the F16 & F18 run is huge in VR. With the same settings those modules run so smooth but the Phantom struggles like mad. F14 I find somewhere in between. A bit of optimisation from HB end would be helpful. In my experience HBs modules have always been more taxing in VR. diego999 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Have you tried lowering the simulation rate in the special options? It doesn't make any difference for me, but it's worth a shot.

JesterIsDead Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Both the F-18 and F-4 are taxing on some maps like Caucasus or Syria. F-14 seems to be the lightest of the 3 for me. However, landing at Nellis for me in the F-4 dumps my fps down to 40-55 =( I7-10700F | RTX4070 FE | 32G RAM | Quest 2/3 | TM T16000 HOTAS & Throttle | F/A-18C | F-14A/B | F-15C | A-10 II | F-4E
Qcumber Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 After tweaking I am getting pretty good performance with the F4 in most situations. As with the F-14 I think it might be a bit more sensitive to lower frame rates when there are lots of assets around. 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
Mike_CK Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 I’m sure it will see some optimization. I hadn’t had any trouble with any modules until the Hind. I had to download a lower res cockpit mod. Couldn’t tell the difference visually in VR but it certainly helped frame rates. The F-4 hadn’t given me issues until I played Reflective’s Marianas mission; FPS got a bit shakey here and there. Then today on Flashpoint Levant Syria (MP server), my fps was all over the place. Would go from 36 (per eye) to 18, back to 27, 19, 37, etc…in seconds for no apparent reason. I’m thinking it’s the issue with ground units and the F-4/ radar b/c in both those cases, there are a lot of ground units in range of my radar at the same time

Comstedt86 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Alot of new performance fixes along with other fixes in coming patch. https://store.heatblur.com/blogs/news/dcs-f-4e-post-release-update-changelog
shrimpy_dikdik Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 (edited) The only issue I jave experienced is the low level IA mission in Sinai when many aircraft are present, probably due to the radar issue which will be addressed in the next patch. No idea what hardware those having issues are using but I'm using a 5950x and 3090 with a G2 and getting 50 odd on the ground and 70 up high with mostly maxed settings and MSAA x4. For G2 users I suggest using quad views and the companion app, gave me 30% extra FPS than the openxr toolkit. Not sure how it works on other headsets, think it is listed on the download page. But it is the actual INS positioning. It made waypoints to tens of miles off their actual point. Running with that option disabled the waypoints were much more accurate. it was a matter of pointing at a complete different town. Edited June 5, 2024 by Czar66
