Avatar72 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 So, I'm doing the mission On the Other Side which is the 7-9 or so mission from the first campaign. You fly a LONG ways through moutain and a valley where you need to destroy ground vehicles. However, you need to sit at the Ingress Point and wait for the bombers to take out air defences. Well I sat there for nearly 10 minutes after they said they were going in and they said they hit the targe, but there are no other radio messages telling me its safe to go in..so i sat there..and sat there. Is there some sort of triggered event i'm supposed to wait for here. I finally started to move up a bit saying clear of the air to air range (blue shaded area) and then I just go shot out of the sky. By what I have no idea...This sucks because it took me like 40 mins to get there. After I was destroyed I hit F2 to look around and there were some Hinds going up against Ka-50 and some jets/bombers circling the area. There's no audio que or status as to when to start an attack run. any clues?
Xjikz Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I think this mission is the next one I have to do as in the briefing it's written that the mission lasts one hour... so I can't help you much! But what if you go ahead and try to see if you get killed, or not ? Maybe SAMs are dead but the trigger is not working...:smilewink: Proud to be a [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] :joystick::pilotfly::book:
nemises Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Hmm...I definately remember getting an audio cue ...I belive its immediately after the su24's (?) drop some prescision ordanance on the SA6's (or similar)..you should see a couple of big explosions, and a massive framerate his ;) It is possible , given the nature of the trigger system, that a trigger condition got missed in that particularl run, however, IMHO, as soon as the su24's take out the big air defence units, it's time to roll in and pound the place...
Safari Ken Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I had the same problem with a different mission. I got to where I thought the trigger point should be, and nothing seemed to happen. After not too long, I got antsy and started maneuvering around, and suddenly I triggered the event, at a short distance from the spot on the ABRIS. But I'm jealous of you; I'm on the same mission. I got to the target on the first try (and died in short order). On every attempt after that, I just can't get over those dang mountains! :(
Avatar72 Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Hmm...I definately remember getting an audio cue ...I belive its immediately after the su24's (?) drop some prescision ordanance on the SA6's (or similar)..you should see a couple of big explosions, and a massive framerate his ;) I think I got to that point then. I saw the explosion or rather the smoke but I still had no audio cue that it was time to move in. There were some enemy helos in the area and I still didnt move in. Plus the shaded blue area representing the air defences was still very big so again, I didnt move in until about 10 minutes later after getting impatient...I slowly moved up and then my helicopter blew up... :(
GGTharos Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 The blue area is something that's in your ABRIS. It has no conenction to the outside world, so if this known SAM/AAA position is destroyed, the ABRIS doesn't know about it, and doesn't erase it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Made.In.China.00 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) I did that mission too, and I blew up the first time like you guys, didn't have problem with the tigger thing, but it was pretty clear to me it was a Hind that shot me down, cause it sais so on the debriefing screen. (Spiral missle) Edit: And on the second try, I couldn't get past the mount, so I just dropped the rocket and finally got high enough. Edited May 2, 2009 by Made.In.China.00
EtherealN Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I got to the target on the first try (and died in short order). On every attempt after that, I just can't get over those dang mountains! :( Just maintain forward speed. If you don't have the altitude when you get there, circle. Do NOT slow down. Slowing down will cause your wingstubs to generate less lift and you will not get the altitude you need. Keep 130km/h minimum and just circle gently until you have the altitude. nemises Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 ...and yes, be careful of the hinds in that mission!...take them out first before you roll in..
Safari Ken Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Just maintain forward speed. If you don't have the altitude when you get there, circle. Do NOT slow down. Slowing down will cause your wingstubs to generate less lift and you will not get the altitude you need. Keep 130km/h minimum and just circle gently until you have the altitude. That's what's so frustrating about it; I feel like I'm doing real well, right down to staying at around 130kph. But when I get to around 3200 meters, my engines max out even at a low collective setting. So I keep lowering the collective, to prevent the engines from just plain dying, and at some point I just can't get any lift anymore. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I swear I'm doing it by the book. Even if I circle around and feel all responsible and junk, I just hit that magic ceiling and either push the engines too far and crash, or give up and turn back (you know, forget the mission and just enjoy flying "Sweet Lorraine"). :) Does this have anything to do with my almost total lack of knowlege regarding the throttle? I keep it on Auto 24/7.
EtherealN Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I also keep it on auto. Though I did say 130km/h minimum. Try to see if you have better luck by sticking around 200km/h. I think I recall the briefing for the mission recommending that - higher speed should help create more lift both from the wings and the advancing side of each rotor. The 130km/h is simply that it's the most effective climb-over-time for the Ka-50, this may change at altitude. Safari Ken Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Sounds like good advice. However, I just moved, so my computer is not currently operational (I'm on my phone currently). I'll try it later tonight for sure, though! :)
EtherealN Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) Yeah, I had some issues first time I flew that mission and was frustrated at not being able to get over, but I got this kinda lightbulb over my head that led me to turn around and sped up and then saw the variometer shoot up to 5m/s positive. So generally - if you don't get over the hurdle, try with a bit more speed. :) Edited May 2, 2009 by EtherealN Grammar [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Made.In.China.00 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Great tip on the speed guys, will keep that in mind next time.
Skydiver Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Did this mission quite a few times myself, After getting to IP and hearing the SEAD is rolling in I circled until they cleared the air defences, slowly made my way up the valley, but sent my wingmen up ahead. They called out the Hinds as they approached so I sent my wingmen to deal with them. I think they are the biggest threat. Hinds down just concentrate on clearing targets until mission success.
Safari Ken Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I tried the mission again this morning, keeping to around 200kph. I got up most of the way normally, but needed a little boost at the end, so I pitched up and traded some of that speed for the last bit of altitude. Worked like a charm, though I didn't do so well once the shooting started. Oh well, at least I got there this time. Thanks! :pilotfly:
Stickers Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I always try and hit the ALT I need way before I reach the mountain, but if you are still low, try turning off Eng ANTI ICE/DUST Protection, it seems you can get more power out of them if they arent engaged. Just flip them back on once your are on the other side and in the decent. For that mission I just had my wingmen focus on taking out Bandits. If they say they can't, just keep telling them to shoot bandits. They'll figure it out sooner or later. I def dropped my rocket pods and made a straight line for home after I hit all the targets to lose some weight.
