Gambit21 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 For purposes of airfield traffic templates. Anyone who has insight into who/what airframes were operating out of which ramp etc at Kandahar anywhere from 09 through 11, please PM me. Even if you have a single piece, during a specific snapshot, it will help me considerably with this project. I'll ask the same of Bagram later. Thank you. 2
Snoopy Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Using Google Earth you can adjust the date to see what is located where. If you change the dates (5/2010 through 9/2019) you if you zoom in you can see here Blackhawks, Chinooks, A-10s, KC-135s and other airframes are located. 2 2 v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website

I’ve done this and has helped a lot for the roughed-in template vs just making something up from 100% from scratch. Now hoping to glean more detailed info if possible. Not to be overly pedantic, but might as well see what I can find out (who’s Chinooks were where as an example) then at some point soon I’ll just do what seems plausible based on what info I do have. 2
Solution Gambit21 Posted June 20, 2024 Author Solution Posted June 20, 2024 I have what I need...thanks peeps. 2
JOLLYGREENFE Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Hey Gambit, In the State Department INL we initially flew Huey II's out of the TLS hanger at Kandahar then moved down to our own compound on the SW side of the base. We used our MI-8's an AN-24 and our King Airs for logistics support flights and we also had a Mi-26 that would run cargo routes, till it flew into a mountain. My old unit was flying HH-60G's. Once the DoS compound was completed, we would also have some 160th visitors flying off our ramp. The Brits also flew Lynx, the Brit and US OGA's flew MI-8/17's After I left the contract the INL got H-60's. S-61's, H-46's and DC-3/BT-67's as well. The U.S. State Department Has Its Own Sprawling Air Force, Here's What's In Its Inventory (twz.com) US Uses a Private Helicopter Force to Get Around Kabul And Intel Woes Might Put It At Risk (twz.com) If you need pics let me know. Cheers! Jolly 2 1

Pumba298 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) I flew Dutch Chinooks out of KAF and for some special operations out of Tarin Kowt (Camp Holland) and one time out of Bastion. At KAF in 2008 our 3 Chinooks were parked on the big helo ramp, at the NE corner of the ramp, near the center of KAF. Right behind us were the CSAR USAF UH-60's and next to us the British helicopters, I believe only Chinooks, and sometimes an Apache or Lynx. Our F-16's were parked at the other side of the field and our Apaches flew out of Tarin Kowt. I was at KAF in the autumn of '05, from sept '07 till march '08 and during the summers of '09 and '10. I will go and look up some pictures, I might be able to dig up some more. Edited July 2, 2024 by Pumba298 3 2

JOLLYGREENFE Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 The tractors, quads and green ANP trucks were used by the local AFG and Dyn Corp guys on the ground to eradicate the poppy crops under the DoS INL program. We, DynCorp contractors, being the DoS Airwing, were tasked with supporting the ambassador and embassy staff for whatever mission they asked for. We also had another mission of supporting the "cutters" on the ground with both gunship and medivac coverage when they were in the field. You could definitely tell who paid their bribes by how well the field was cut (or not). The pic of the smoking truck I took while we were escorting the cutters to another location. The bad guys waited till just the right time when both of our acft were out of place and took that truck, and another at the front, out with RPGs. Lucky for our guys and bad for them, was that those two trucks were not part of our convoy, they snuck in thinking that being with us would give them security. If you look close in the tall light green crops just to the left of the truck you can see where the bad guy ran. Saw some comments about carrier ops off Lake Kajiki in another post so I added a couple pics. Some of the most beautiful water I have ever seen... We went up that way alot! Cheers 3

Tomcatter87 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Being into mission and base building as well, I have a specific question. Where were F-16s usually parked at Kandahar? I unterstand that Belgian Vipers were in shelters on the northern tip of the airbase. What about F-16s from the US, for example the South Carolina or Iowa ANG, which both were stationed there at some point? Did they use the same spots as the Belgians, or did they have a different place? Of course, I'm not sure if Vipers from different nations were there at the same time. I searched around a lot, but I couldn't find pictures where I could tell the location of their parking spots. graveyard4DCS Posted January 18 Posted January 18 (edited) If you take Google Earth pictures from August 2012 for example, you can see both Belgian Air Force apron on the north of the airfield, and the US Air National Guard apron on the north west.
