I noticed that after the update the new launcher defaulted to ST. There is no way to change this besides manually updating the shortcut. I imagine that a lot of people are now flying in ST without realising it, and probably blaming the performance drop on the new update - my testing showed that DCS starts up on my PC in around 55 seconds in MT compared to 1:20 seconds in ST (after the update).

Can we please have the option of selecting to run the MT or ST option from the new launcher? This will make it easy for non-technical minded flyers.

I don't think it's quite a simple as launcher is running ST.  My previous icon shortcut was pointing to the MT version and it still starts MT when using the launcher.  A wing mate uses Steam and his will start ST if he DOESN'T use the launcher, but uses MT if he DOES use the launcher.

I get that it's tricky for ED to make shortcuts work right and but it might be nice to have the option in the launcher.  Enough people seem to get caught using ST without realizing it still.

Eventually ST is going away and MT will be the standard so not much point in having this option in the launcher. FWIW my update defaulted to MT as it had been prior.

Having the launcher separate from the exe would be good.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Reviving this thread after the newest update. Are the ST and MT versions of DCS separate programs? If ST is now gone, can we uninstall it without damaging the MT version?

Not really. The ST version have already been replaced. You don't need to do anything. It's all in the changelog.

Cheers!

There are currently /bin and /mt-bin folders, but they are duplicated for now so peoples shortcuts don't get broken when /mt-bin gets removed.  Sounds like that will happen in the next update or two.  So there really is no ST to remove.  In theory you could likely remove /mt-bin, but it's not that big so I'm not sure it would be worth it in case it might mess with something.

Just so I've got this correct. I had a shortcut on my desk top to start MT but with the latest update using the standard DCS WORLD icon, I will start multithread as there is no single thread anymore.

So I can delete my MT shortcut.

Thanks in advance.

When you have started DCS, right click the icon on the taskbar and pin it. That's the only shortcut you'll ever need. 😉
