HC_Official Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 (edited) Hi, Has anyone successfully worked out how to convert a miz file from one terrain to another ? A lot of missions use MOOSE or MIST and have a lot of template objects in a MIZ file, now if the editor had some sort of decent group select to copy paste these objects to new blank mission file that would be great ... but we do not sadly. I tried myself to convert a MIZ that was created on Persian Gulf to Afghanistan by editing the terrain values and then loading it in the mission editor and it worked ... until I tried to select a blue airframe ... none showed up to be selected Has anyone sussed this out yet ? razo+r Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 You could try opening the mission.lua within the miz file itself, copy the units that are in there over to the other miz and hope that the coordinates of the units are somewhere usable in the new mission.
HC_Official Posted July 20, 2024 Author Posted July 20, 2024 (edited) thanks for replying the units are showing on the map fine (coordinate wise) .............. I just cannot select any client blue aircraft to fly null Edited July 20, 2024 by HC_Official No more pre-orders Click here for tutorials for using Virpil Hardware and Software Click here for Virpil Flight equipment dimensions and pictures. .
352ndDeacon Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 Could you group everything in the original mission, save it with a different name say, original mission, and then start the ME and select a different terrain and place that “ original mission” group on the new terrain? I’m sure you’d need to set certain objects at ground level.
Kanelbolle Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 This is the main reason i ended up creating everything with scripts. Now there is just a trigger to load the scripts and i am done converting it to a different map. A merge functionality would be great. Not sure if the WebEditor has this, but you can check if it does. 1 WARGAMES Servers: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/301046-wargames-server-pvp-and-pve-campaign-servers/ Scripts: RGC & SPGG https://github.com/AGluttonForPunishment/

You can copy and paste unit groups from one mission into the other by simply Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V them ingame, but obviously only works for groups.

From what I understand, the DCS Web Editor can help you here by getting the grunt work (moving units and keeping their relative positions). I've never done this myself, but I think it might be worth a shot. 1

Can confirm, DCS Web Editor, Load mission you want to copy, change region/map, make sure everything is unlocked on the left panel, select everything, drag to the new map region - save new mission profit. As @cfrag said, you still have to move units exactly where you want them, but the bulk of things are done. DCS Web editor is a great tool for saving time in situations like this

Also you don't get access to the 3D view, which is one of the big features in my mind. Personally, I am still debating if/how I might support this. I am a big ME user and continuously find myself frustrated by the poor UX experience and infuriating lack of basic editing features. @dtruck260, are you a supporter? Yep, at 4$, I didnt see any losses at that tier. I was 15$ for one month to test all versions. 3D isnt something I need, I need faster tools than what is in the in-game ME 1
Solution HC_Official Posted July 24, 2024 Author Solution Posted July 24, 2024 (edited) ok , after chatting with another MOOSE guy (Statua) over on their discord we worked it out between us So I edit the theatre value inside miz file and change it to new terrain AND edit the theatre file inside the miz file for new terrain mission will load up in the ME with the correct terrain My issue was the blue client slots were not available , you click blue side ... and nothing shows up There was an error related to slots in the dcs.log file FIX: Delete all blue client aircraft slots, save miz, then add start re-adding them back in and the blue slots will be useable Edited July 24, 2024 by HC_Official No more pre-orders Click here for tutorials for using Virpil Hardware and Software Click here for Virpil Flight equipment dimensions and pictures. .
