Need a hover kneeboard, video, online class.

I do not have a Helo collective, I have a Warthog with 6 inch extension. I set some stick curve numbers for the curve at about 24. I removed the curve section out. I have all the settings used for getting a hover, and auto manual lower, raising, etc. Very difficult to hold in place for lifting and dropping cargo. Need to find if anyone has mastered this, and can share the best way to hover for cargo. I can hover for a very short time, but not good enough. I suppose they will be adding to and improving the controls and settings.

patience and practice...

Figure out in what exact attitude the helo is stable and then do small adjustments around this attitude. (With no Wind etc.)

Before this, learn the basics. You dont need any special gear. The 6 Inch Extension is Fine. The Curves of 24 a bit enough in my opinion. Try it with 10 and with finer adjustments.

The Art is to do as least as possible on the cyclic. Pilots (IRL and SIM) who wobble the Stick around like a rudder boat are n00bs

good Luck

what i have found best, is take what you THINK you need in collective/cyclic movement to make the 47 do "this"( ie shift left while in the hover to get over the cargo) and cut that into 1/4s. TINY TINY TINY movements and adjustments. The smaller the better.

For me using a Virpil Collective for the Thrust I had first set it on Axis and it was hard to give small inputs. I went to the Axis tweak and put it on a Slider and it helped with better input control.

Make sure your AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch on the center console is set to BOTH.

Other than that, practice, practice, practice.

I tried 'hovering' with bob over the cargo with the hook. It would not pick it up, I do it manually and I can pick up the cargo. Bob was 100% more stable than me, so I don't understand why it would not with Bob.

Trim is really important for hovering, you need to display the Show Control Indicator to keep an eye on adjustments then Cyclic Trim Up, Down, Left, Right and Trim Release and Trim Reset, it's a big help if you can bind them to buttons on the HOTAS. Some helos vary, the Huey for example doesn't have Cyclic Trim Up, Down, Left and Right as you use the stick itself to make adjustments with the Control Indicator window open then click Trim Release to set it. I also bind Pilot Radio Call to the HOTAS as well as you need the comms menu up to designate the cargo you are picking up.

If you are struggling I would suggest practise hovering and using the trim functions, then land next to the cargo and hook up from the ground. It's easier to get in to the air to start with then you can practise trimming it out into a hover with a load on, from there you can practise movements and then cargo drops, easiest is probably use Auto Unhook to start with.

With a bit of practise you should be able to trim it so you can take hands off the HOTAS and it holds a reasonable hover. They all use the basic Trim Release principle for setting the trim, the ones that have Cyclic Trim Up, Down, Left and Right means you can fine tune the setting. There's loads of YouTube tutorials.
