Ive been flying the mission where you have to perform the show of force (12 i think?) and every single time i cant evade the manpad. I know i can disable the damage but i'd rather get it properly. So far i've tried

-coming high an steep at idle the whole dive, dropping flares on way down and then again when leveled at 3000 (and obviously when 2 calls manpad) as well as breaking hard right

-tried coming in low and fast early at 3000, hitting idle just before the town, again dropping flares before, and when its called, breaking hard back towards manpad

-tried program 1&3

-all attempts are from the North, as that what the dialogue suggests

If anyone who's completed it, has any tips or suggestions, i would love some help, otherwise i may have to resort to *gulp* cheating with the hack 🤮

Advice I've been given by people that have succeeded is to come in VERY fast, pre-flare on the run in, cut your throttle, pull a hard right.
I can't get this to work at all though and just gave up and hacked it.

yeh, usually the two approaches above work relatively well, but since we only have a couple decent f16 campaigns, maybe i just havent experienced it yet (i only fly campaigns). i think maybe the manpad is just a little too close to omaha, it fires off when your right on top of it. But then again, if BD alters his position, thats the same as cheating i guess haha may as well use the hax

I'm a campaigns only guy too, so minimal experience in SAM avoidance in the Viper. The massive start-up and flight time in order to get to this situation limits my desire to practice it.

I guess this would be a good time for me to start learning the mission editor and setup a similar situation without the need for all that. 🤔

yeh, the hax is looking better by the minute though haha ... i do know theres a way to set up custom profiles, but never really looked into it, may be an option, although i reckon the original programs blows 30-40 flares which should be plenty to lure a single manpad. How on earth did that guy in Iraq avoid 6 in a row? (famous vid on youtube)

Maybe counts as cheating, but I did it by going as high as I could for the mission to register the pass. IIRC it was just under 7k feet. Also break left (into the missile), as suggested in the brief. I also didn't use the built-in programs. Rather created my own. I didn't find the pre-dump helpful, but I created a program to dump like 5 flares 100ms apart.

Good luck 🫡

In general I find custom flare programs on the Viper to be really effective. For me typically a burst of 3 flares with a salvo of 2 or 3 with half-second salvo spacing is good against everything from MANPADS to R-60s.

I hate these scripted SAM launches in campaigns, with how it works in DCS it's a dice roll. IMHO you should not be low enough for an IR SAM shot that can't be evaded kinetically.

All I can advise is to cut burner and set a program to dump all flares when you see a launch. It's just RNG in DCS, so each flare has an equal chance of spoofing the missile.

Oh, so its left, i felt it was coming from my right shoulder hence why i was breaking right. good tips in there though, cheers

Its one of those things, ive known its existed for a while, an i set up custom profiles in the bug, just never had a need to do it in the viper.. till now!! Off to the Youtube for me i guess !

I gotta agree, especially in this mission, the JTAC has already identified the presence of manpads, and honestly what good would a show of force do, theyre parked trucks were going to destroy, we dont want them to move/run away, its risking the jet, especially with lunatics like me flying 😆 Gonna try once more with the tips above, then im engaging god mode i think !

After many attempts I found coming in at 6k MSL at mach 1, cutting the engine to idle over target area, banking hard into the missile while spamming flares at .5 intervals works wells. I modify program 2 to launch 30 flairs, overkill but worked for me. Also changed loadout to max out flairs at 120. The extra altitude gives you the needed working space. I also had to dodge three consecutive launches on my clear run as I didn't exit the area fast enough and the first manpad had time to reload but all three missed by a pretty safe margin.

Funny moment: On landing after finally clearing all mission objectives, wingmen decided to land right in front of me. Came in from above just before I touched down. I landed right behind him. AI slammed on the brakes and I clipped his wing trying to avoid him. He blew up but I suffered no damage and I was credited for the kill. Funny hearing the wingmen radio call for taxing while his jet is a fireball on the runway. Lost all combat points because of the fratricide but still got all 100 mission points.

Haha I had exactly the same! Had to re-fly it as my outcome wasn't so favourable. I finished the mission upside down in the grass which doesn't look good on a YouTube video 😂

Oh great mission. Beat it on second run. Went in from the north at 3000ft, full AB, over the target I started spamming flares - 15 with 0,350 interval, on the wingman call I did hard right, spam some more flares. Did another hard left and as I was still fast, pulled up to 15k ft constantly checking six and I was already out of range with 15 flares to spare.

This mission gave me the feeling I want in campaigns - that <profanity> gets real and this is what I trained for. Its 1:30 in the morning and I go to the bed happy. Thank you @baltic_dragon

On the first run I evaded first missile but got the second one in the butt and lost all of the fuel.

I haven’t played this mission specifically yet, but have played similar missions in other campaigns and it always made me wonder, are the people on the ground really asking me to get myself killed for a “show of force”.  I mean seems like a lot of risk for nothing.  Can they not see me flying over at 15k????   lol  😂 I shouldn’t be snooping ahead as I’m only on mission 4😂

There's varying degrees of a show of force, some are considerably scarier than others.
If you get buzzed by an F16 like in this link, you might seriously reconsider your mission 🤣

I think this is largely down to the RNG on if a Heater is going to bite off on a flare or not. I tried 4 different times, once going high and pulling into the missile (dead), going low and pulling into the missile (Dead), going Low and pulling away from the missile (Lived), and going High and Pulling Away form the missile (Lived).

All  entries were done at or just under mach 1, off burner, and pre-flaring around 5k ASL. The two times I died the missile did not care about the flares and tracked right at me through the defensive maneuver. The two times I survived the Missile went after a flare as I was initiating the defensive maneuver and were not defeated kinematically.

So unfortunately it's not a skill based encounter. At least it seems to be entirely up the the RNG of whether the missile will go for a flare or not.

If can help you I usually have two programs to use with two different buttons. Program 1 (or whatever you like) for chaff which is one button (I use right hand thumb). Program 5 for flare (but I change from the icp, cmds, 2 flares for 15 times total 30 flares instead of 2*20=40 flares) with my left hand.

In this case scenario when I am 10 second north from the road 3000 feet I start dropping flare (2*15=30 flare program 5) and all the time the missile goes for flare. I did it couple of time and always worked
