Is anyone currently using the Tobii Eye Tracker and can give me a few pointers on these questions?

  1. Does it track as well as TrackIR? Preferably with their own software, because I'm assuming you'd need that to make use of the eye tracking. People seem to have had problems in the past with both sluggishness and lack of stability. Is that fixed now?
  2. Does DCS support foveated rendering on a screen with it? Nobody seems to talk about this except for VR.

I'm currently testing out Tobii Eye Tracker 5. It works perfectly in the other simulator i'm using but I'm not satisfied with my settings in DCS yet. I have some lags that I'm sure I did not have with TrackIR 5. It definetly brings something else than TrackIR 5 as you have a much larger play area, at least that what I experienzing. I'm having some trouble getting the center view reset to work also. The "Disable" button is not working for DCS in Tobii I think, at least I have not got it to work like the disable feature in TrackIR 5.

2. I don't think DCS supports foveating on screen.

No problem with Tobii on DCS, although it would be nice to see it integrated rather than having to use GameHub.

Unlike post above, I have no issues with lag, reset button or disable button.

I tried and tested Tobii and eventually stayed with TrackIR.

Even though you can improve it with settings, I never got completely rid of a noticable input lag. I didn't like the software (which is amongst other problems pretty heavy on resources compared to TrackIR) and all in all, it didn't improve my experience over TrackIR.

The only "issue" with TrackIR, and therefore the main benefit of Tobii (imho) is the additional device on your head or lack thereof. But that really only bothers me when I play alone and don't wear a headset anyway.

Each to his own, obviously, but for me Tobii is superior to my TrackIR.

The GameHub software has been improved a lot of late, and I don't see any lag or resource hogging going on at all.

Maybe I'll give it another try eventually. The software really was my biggest gripe. That was some time ago now though. If it has improved that much....

I'm using Tobii 5 and it works.
Compared to track IR it's a little less reactive but it's fine for me.
The main issue is that it's not natively supported by DCS.
From me it's the main downside as it prevents me to use my mouse to look around when the device in paused.

For a solution that doesn't require a headset, I recommend trying Aimxy, a new and original brand. I've used Trackir for a few years, Tobii for a few months, and now I'm using Aimxy Z Head Tracker, which is the only product that has the same overall effect as Trackir without having to wear anything.

Some comments said that because this product software needs to be connected to the Internet when it is started, I used a network tool to test it and confirmed that the data volume of less than 1k bytes is not enough to transmit any picture or anything that may involve privacy.

Thanks for that.
I noticed that device some time ago. Couldn’t see any advantage over Tobii apart from price.
Anyway, requiring an internet connection to make it work, and coming from China makes it a non-starter for me. Interesting though.

Has anybody tried Running TET in DCS with the new version of Opentrack rather than the gamehub software?  I use TET 5 for head tracking only.

At least for IL-2, Opentrack seems to give much more view angles than the Game hub driver can.

OpenTrack has been better than GH for the last 2 versions, ever since it included built-in support for Tobii.

IMO, no need to ever use GH at all.

Hey, I just stumbled over this. My Tobii was shelved for  the last two years or so, because I hated the software.
Does that mean, I only need to use Opentrack and the Tobii hardware? Nothing else?

Maybe I'll give it another try then.....

Yes, that is correct. It's been that way for about a year now!

Started with the 2023.3.0 release and now the current 2024.1.1.

That'll be because you've got GameHub running. Quit from it.

@imacken While we're talking 'bout it. Does Opentrack support the IR-Camera that comes with TrackIR?

OK, so you haven't got the right settings in OT then.  Should be like attached.

You probably have it set to UDP and no filter if you'd been using it with GH.

Don't use TrackIR any more, so can't say for 100% sure.

The tutorial on the site is only if you are using OT with GH.  Ignore all that!

OT is much better, IMO. More stable and better control through is curves and filters.
When you use it with GH, it isn’t actually doing anything. GH is just passing its data through OT to games that it doesn’t support.
You can’t use OT with GH in DCS anyway as it is a supported game.
