Mission start - view on unit ...

Does anyone knows what determines on which ground unit the initial mission opening view is focussed?

I created a mission with two client slots. When the mission is started, the initial view is on an enemy unit. I'd rather have the opening screen to view an allied unit in the neighbourhood of where the player is starting. I tried renaming units, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Anyone any ideas?

System specs:

i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU

HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3

I was also annoyed by this, having client-only missions that first viewed Anapa aerodrome in a completely different part of the map. From my experiments it seems to be FIRST added unit that is not a client. So recently I started to add some static object first. Be it a cow or some kind of static airplane. It always shows that one first.

Reordering doesn't seem possible, so you can try to copy some units (but this may break some parts of the mission). Sometimes, if I don't like the static object in the initial view, I use it in such a way that I move it to where I want it and change it to another object I actually want. But you can do this only for the same category of objects (e.g. static object can't be changed to non-static-model airplane).

I also always thought it was bound to the first unit placed on the map, but this is not the case.

This mission I'm working on, started by looking at a unit that I placed somewhere halfway my editing. Let's call it unit "A". This was ok for me, but then, the last few units I added to my mission (a few scattered manpads units to attack the player if he crosses the border) are now focused on/in view when the mission starts.

When I remove these manpad units, the mission starts again viewing unit "A"

Renaming the units has no effect, so this must be something deeper.. I now solved it by "late activating" the manpads units, but this is quite a cumbersome solution imho.

Hi,

I may be wrong, but my observations on this subject are:

1) The Focus Unit is always an AI unit, never a player or client one.

2) The Focus unit is the first unit of the Air Group with lowest GroupID on the mission.

3) If there is no AI Air Groups, then the 1st unit of the Ground Group with the lowest GroupID will be the focus unit.

4) If there is no AI Air nor Ground Groups, the focus unit will then be the 1st unit of the Naval Group with lowest GroupID.

The GroupID can't be seen within the Mission Editor, but if you edit the "mission" file of the MIZ file then it can be seen like this:

SKuR3Nk.jpg

I dont know if the groupId can be edited without having issues within the mission Dictionary entries, have never tried it.

Thanks Rudel. That makes sense.

I was already kinda suspecting something complicated like this.

Hey folks, you can see the group ID in the ME, just click the question mark:

null

Rudel's observations are definitely more in-depth, I had no other type of groups in my mission, only my client planes/helos and static units. They may be waaaay down in the priority list to consider as the "first" unit to look upon.

But all the other hassle I mentioned, that was definitely based on that groupId (based mostly on the order the units were added into the mission).

It would be cool if we could simply say "focus on this unit/object before I select any client". 🙂

agree … I’d love to see more missions where the focus unit is a carrier fleet 🥰
