Fundamentally, all you have to do is copy the dxgi.dll and the DLSSTweaks.ini file to your DCS bin-mt folder. You also need to edit the .ini file to force the use of the preferred preset (F for me). Below is a screenshot of the files I have in OVGME mod manager for this particular mod, note I only kept the .reg files and executable in the mod but never actually ran them, you don't need to using this hooking method. I recommend you use a mod manager and not just copy the two required files into bin-mt as it's safer and helps keep your DCS install “clean”.

The second screenshot is of my .INI file and the relevant preset section within it. Note I am only using DLAA not DLSS

The only reason for this is to allow you to force a specific preset for DLAA/DLSS, most VR users agree that F (or E) offer better image quality with less “smudging/blurring” etc.

Is it necessary to edit the .ini file when DLSS tweaks allows you to change the presets and scaling from within the config tool? I have mine set to preset F.

I just manually edited it, and didn't use the config tool. Either way is valid I guess.

Thanks. Just wondered if I had missed any recent changes. You know how rapidly VR develops and new "tweaks" come along.

I revisited DLSS recently after some time without any AA and have found that there is now minimal smearing with moving aircraft. The cockpit is as sharp as it can get. It all looks very good (preset F, quality scaling set 0.9).

Agreed, I’ve been using DLAA and preset F for a few months now and I notice no smearing or cockpit issues, it looks great 👍

It has improved since the last update. I have found the worst presentation of DLSS smearing is with the Marianas Lagoon Patrol mission. Even with DLSS 3.7.20 and preset F there was still blurring. Since the last DCS update there is none. I did not know why except that perhaps DLSS optimisation within DCS has improved.

What is the advantage over DLSS (Quality)?

The default setting for DLSS quality is a scaling of about 0.66 and preset E. With DLSS tweaks you can change the scaling and the preset. Preset F appears to be the best one for DCS. I find that a scaling of 0.9 gives identical quality to DLAA but slightly better performance. You can get away with 0.8 as well.

The default preset for DCS is C.

The default preset for the DLSS 3.7 library is E these days if an application does not set this. However it appears that DCS does actually set to this to C (you can see this when enabling the debug overlay), which at the time was the recommended preset for Performance/Balanced/Quality options.

What does the scaling actually do?

It's the level of upscaling applied. 1.0 is no upscaling so is essentially DLAA. 0.5 would upscale the image from 50% using the DLSS (Deep learning super sampling) technology to full resolution. The more upscaling is applied the more the image can degrade but gives you increased performance.

Now I am confused. Which suggestion in the thread leads to DLSS taking Preset F instead of E? And does the Preset already imply the scaling? So Preset F is a scaling of 0.66 and F is 0.9? Whhcih Preset has 0.8? And what do you mean by Scaling? The downscaling factor of the resolution?

The scaling is separate from the presets. The presets are described here:

Hey Folks,  Running my Crystal Light on 4090 and really enjoying it.  What I struggle with here is all the potential options and vectors to insert files here and tweak this stuff there to get better performance and graphics.  Can someone  here summarize where we are with how to implement both DLSS and DLAA using these tweaking methods discussed above?  I see bits and pieces in the forum above but for someone who has little idea what they are doing it is really confusing me, and I imagine others as well.  The folks who do know are way smarter than I am about this stuff and I am hopeful they can share their formulae for this stuff and maybe pin the thread?  Thanks!

@Mustang, these dlls can be located at this site so you don’t need to extract and share yourself (especially for folk who may be nervous about downloading a dll from an unknown user).

https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/?amp

Ran across this article on the latest release and looks like the other presets have been removed and only E and F are remaining. I’ll retest this with the defaults (not overriding the preset) with this latest dll and see what DCS ends up using.

Just retested with this latest version, after removing my preset override. DCS is now using preset E as the default preset C it was previously using has been removed.

Yes, new version now only has E and F to improve ghosting issue. As soon as ED updates this version in new release, it won’t be a tech issue then.
