_Zloy_ Posted October 29 Posted October 29 (edited) Ukranian 1st Army Aviation Brigade (1994) Historical Спойлер The faded paint job of the shark-mouthed Mi-24 helicopter belonged to the 1st Brigade of the Ukrainian Army Aviation. The helicopter has the standard paint job of the USSR Army Aviation and painted over the stars with the Ukrainian Air Force roundel on top. This Brigade and its helicopters previously took part in the war in Afghanistan and the liquidation of the consequences of the nuclear accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. A short report with these helicopters filmed in the village of Romanivka, Zhytomyr region, in 1994 Спойлер The paint job is based on the actual helicopters of this Brigade. II.JG1_Vonrd Posted November 3 Posted November 3 (edited) Submission to DCS Mi-24P skin contest November 2024. This is a Livery depicting a German Democratic Republic (GDR) Mi-24P, No. 361, C/N: 340-332 of Kampfhubschraubergeschwader 5 (KHG-5) circa 1989. In December 1989, 12 Mi‑24P were delivered. This made the GDR the last member state of the Warsaw Pact to receive Mi‑24s with modern 9M114 anti-tank guided missiles. The GDR was the only operator of Mi‑24Ps outside the Soviet Union in the Warsaw Pact. C/N: 340-332 was delivered 30Dec1989 to Basepohl helicopter base 140 kilometer north of Berlin. Post unification it was re-marked as Luftwaffe 96+42 and served Oct 1990 thru Sep 1994. Then transfereed to the Hungarian Air Force, storage at Szentkirályszabadja May 1995 then Szolnok. Dec2017-Jan2019. Overhauled by 419th Aircraft Repair Plant (419 ARZ), a subsidiary of Rostec`s Russian Helicopters holding and changed Reg No. to 331 at 86th "Szolnok" Helicopter Base, Hungary. Details of note: 1) The GDR Mi-24P's had bare stainless ring seal plates around the exhaust stacks which had a high temp flexible seal contacting the exhaust stacks. I assume that they were supposed to keep dust, soot and FOD from entering the engine compartment through the gap between the stack and the fuselage skin. Please comment if you know more about them. I couldn't depict the flex seal without the ability to mod the 3d model. 2) Photos show that the APU cover was bare metal (stainless?). 3) Photos also show the lower portions of the pylons were bare metal. 4) I don't think that they used the IR suppressors but I can't stand the plain brown default ones so I painted to match the camo and made connecting parts bare metal. 5) It looks like the GDR flight crew had orange helmets and gray uniforms and this is depicted. The pilot also got an 80s style moustache. 6) I made an additional version of this skin with selectable Bort numbers. Look for "GDR Mi-24P No. 3xx Bort". Submitted to User Files. Links: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3341792/ and https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3341793/ I will do another livery depicting this same airframe post unification as Luftwaffe 96+42. As the photo shows, it was by that point quite weathered and apparently not well maintained. Edited November 4 by II.JG1_Vonrd 9
Aqil Huseynov Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I will participate in the competition with the MI-24P Azerbaijan Army 1993, This livery is found on Mi-24P and Mi-24Vs purchased from Russia in the 1990s. Some of the helicopters were used by Russia in the Afghanistan war and were later purchased by Azerbaijan. The old Azerbaijani camouflage has a completely different roundel and mouth design that is found on every helicopter. Detailed pictures https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rJXogL Dynamic Bort is also included in the file for those who want to use it. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3330662/ I put the number 115 of Mi 24V as static because there is no information about the tail number of the old Mi-24P. II.JG1_Vonrd Posted November 22 Posted November 22 These skins have been revised Nov 21, 2024 Both skins: 1) Closer investigation of photos found that apparently only the left half of the APU cover was bare metal. Livery changed to match. 2) KORD gunners given "Stritchtarn" summer camo uniforms. Skin "GDR Mi-24P No. 3xx Bort" 1) Selectable BORT number alignment corrected. 4

II.JG1_Vonrd Posted November 23 Posted November 23 (edited) Second submission to DCS Mi-24P skin contest November 2024. This is a Livery of the former (GDR) Mi-24P No. 361, C/N: 340 332 now depicted as post unification Luftwaffe 96+42 of Combat Helicopter Squadron 80. It served with the Luftwaffe from Oct 1990 thru Sep 1994. It was then transferred to the Hungarian Air Force, storage at Szentkirályszabadja May 1995 then Szolnok. Dec2017-Jan2019. Overhauled by 419th Aircraft Repair Plant (419 ARZ), a subsidiary of Rostec`s Russian Helicopters holding and changed Reg No. to 331 at 86th "Szolnok" Helicopter Base, Hungary. Details of note: 1) As can be seen in the historical photo it seems that the Luftwaffe had little love for the Hinds and maintenance suffered. The photo shows numerous and massive oil leaks. I just couldn't go that far but did weather this livery considerably from the prior GDR version. 2) The GDR Mi-24P's (and retained through the Luftwaffe and later in the Hungarian Airforce) had bare stainless ring seal plates around the exhaust stacks which had a high temp flexible seal contacting the exhaust stacks. I assume that they were supposed to keep dust, soot and FOD from entering the engine compartment through the gap between the stack and the fuselage skin. Please comment if you know more about them. I couldn't depict the flex seal without the ability to mod the 3d model. 3) Photos show that the left hand APU cover was bare metal (stainless?). 4) Photos also show the lower portions of the pylons were bare metal. 5) I don't think that they used the IR suppressors but I can't stand the plain brown default ones so I painted to match the camo and made connecting parts bare metal. 6) Flight crew and KORD gunners are given Luftwaffe gray uniforms and this is depicted. 7) I made an additional version of this skin with selectable Bort numbers which is included here. Due to the limitations of the DCS decal system I could only make it work for one number due to the number spacing (kerning). So it will be "96+x3" where "x" is the selectable number. MiGCap1 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 (edited) For the GDR colours: I flew a photo mission in one of the Basepohl-based Mi-24Ds (96+28) of then HFS 80 in July 1991. Photo object was Mi-24P 96+50. All Mi-24s of the former East German Air Force retained their old camouflage, they only got the Iron Cross and a new tactical code applied (and the Federal German flag). Benom8 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 (edited) The "Ex Tarpit" family of fictional liveries for the Mi-24p is inspired by the primordial look of the airframe. Designed to enhance the distinctive and intimidating presence of the Hind, while providing effective camouflage in diverse environments and giving a highly realistic impression, befitting of DCS. I would like to enter two versions for this competition: the original (lightly mug-splattered) Dark Forest colours for temperate theatres, and a slightly sand-blasted Desert variant. These liveries have been carefully revised and remastered for this competition from an original livery I've been using when flying with my DCS wing. Many thanks to @Drastik and @Buergels for their helpful feedback! FishbedBG Posted November 29 Posted November 29 (edited) And let me close the topic with the Bulgarian Air Force bort 129! The skin is based on the real aircraft (Mi-24D, serial 410450), representing its state in the late 90s after the first major overhaul in TEREM aircraft repair plant. In 2018 this Hind was sold to Burkina Faso and received tail number 1807. Pilot, operator, door gunner and EVU skins included. Authentic stencil (as far as possible to reproduce D stencil on P variant). Small modifications to roughmets and normal maps. Enjoy!
