Hi,

Just wanted to know what's the latest/official decision in that subject. Initially, before DCS was released, even in Russian language version, there was some info about that from ED, and I think they even said that it will make it at some point to DCS. But recently I can't find any information about that, and dunno if it's gonna be added or not. It's a real need for DCS to have dynamically generated campaign.

Cheers

as far as i know there have been no planes to have a dynamic campaign.

keep in mind that real simulators don't have a dynamic campaign they use a mission editor that can add situations and units etc as the simulation is running i think that would be cool as the server admin could add units from the f10 screen etc to a current online game. Dynamic campaigns are over rated in my view a good mission builder tool is far better for a simulation.

any way i think there working on the new patch, AI improvements / ground detail and down the track - possible new a10 module at current.

If you search around you'll find a fairly long discussion regarding the feasibility of a DC engine. I too think that a DC capability would be nice particularly in Multiplayer which is currently worthless for co-op gameplay without an evolving, replenishing battlefield. What I took from that previous discussion was that a dynamic campaign is "not impossible" and could possibly be in the form of a third party app which takes the results of one mission and generates a follow-on mission.

We had said that ED is not opposed to developing a dynamic campaign system and it's quite possible that one will be created in the future. However, this is not a trivial matter and will be done when all of the pieces are in the right place. Meaning, when creating such a system makes sense from the perspecitve of the rest of the simulation code and company resources (availability of programmers and needs of other projects, like military simulations). The time measured to do this is probably closer to years than months.

On the other hand, we have also said that ED is making a continuous effort to increase the replayability value, immersion factor, flexibility and dynamics of the virtual world. Some of these efforts are being prepared for the next module, DCS: Warthog. Others will hopefully come later. If everything goes the way ED would like, each module will introduce significant improvements to many areas of the simulation besides new flyable aircraft.

Thanks guys for clearing it up for me. I'm big fan of ED's games since the release of Flanker. I bought DCS for myself and for my friend already, as we are both simulation fans.

I hope we'll see at least semi dynamic campaign at some point (I don't ever dare to dream of campaign as i played in Falcon 4).

I'll be awaiting the patch then and I hope A10 will be released this year.

Cheers

Will it be difficult to create one mission generator, that create a mission based on the data retrieved from a .log??

I think that this can be a first step to make a independent dinamic campaign.

If anyone want to do it, I can help with C#

That would require that all units in the campaign would be present at all times,at least the way i imagine it to work, and that would blow any PC away.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

The dynamic campaign was one of my favorite features of Falcon. I'd love to see ED provide this for the DCS series. Well designed missions are a great thing, but they're nothing like kicking off a dynamic campaign and letting the computer run a war for you and hopping in the middle of it with some friends and battling it out. Yes, if you're talking real world training, this really isn't what you want, you want to train specific skills, etc. But for a PC sim, the dynamic campaign adds a huge fun factor element to the mix. There's a place for both hand-crafted missions and also a dynamic campaign. Hopefully this will get added.

Some units, the one's in the currently played mission need to be "live" just as they are now and limited to 50 or 60 (at least on my rig). The other stuff, i.e the supply chain, replacement parts and personnel, new FLOT line can be "kept" within the 3rd party campaign generator and be processed only after it receives the data from the just completed mission. It will then do its magic, make a new mission incorporating changes, and send the mission to the editor. It's still not dynamic in the Falcon sense but it preserves all the advantages of the DCS battlefield while giving the player(s) a goal that keeps 'em coming back.

Basically, yes. Using a combination of LUA exports and the debrefing log, one can gather enough post-mission data to pseudo-carry over the world state from mission to mission. Pseudo, because the mission generator would not actually carry anything over, but would instead recreate the world in the new mission as it was at the end of the previous one.

Now all you have to do is code it. :P
