CPU arrived today. So ill be switching platforms today. Cross your fingers i can switch without reinstalling everything.
Depends on how the switch goes when i can give a summary.

Going from Intel to AMD, I would highly recommend a fresh OS install.

You can get away with a lot more with W10 and 11 than you could in previous Windows, but a major change in platforms, it's usually best practice to do a fresh install.

Just my 2 coppers.

Agreed. And if DCS is installed on a separate drive then should be very easy (also backup saved games/DCS).

Exactly the same for me "CPU bound render thread" (specs in sig)

and same here. I'm using a 4080 and 13700k. I'm surprised to be CPU bound so much of the time especially as the 4080 is proportionately a lot weaker against the 4090 than the 13700K is vs a 14700k. AFAIK extra threads won't help much if one of the main threads is CPU bound.

For me with m current 14900k ITS Not the 4090 that makes the bottleneck. I am getting CPU bound pretty huge amount of the time

there was something wrong with your set up or u played with 2k or less...
im using stock 14900kf & 4090 & 64gb @ 6800 CL34 @ 4k, everything maxed out with DLAA and i have always GPU bound.

write me a DM and we can compare it with your 9800x3d 🙂

Considering that 7800X3D already beats 14900k in gaming overall and 9800X3D at a minimum is 4-8% faster stock for stock (before any OC headroom), then logic would dictate that 9800X3D will also handily beat out 14900k in gaming.

Throw it into a half decent b650E or X670E board and you're off to the races.

Interesting part will be how vcache being under the CCD effects signaling/latency and vdroop, which will bleed over into overclocking. Direct die cooling could make things more spicy.

not really.... maybe if you play in 1080p or maybe 2k. dcs is one ot the games where 7800x3d is not better then intel if you play in 4k or higher.

you sure about that?

I fly in VR with a 3080ti and task manager shill shows the primary core as being maxed out for my CPU.

My assumption is that further splitting of CPU loads across additional cores will help.

7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Don't know anything about this lad, his system configuration (not just a list of parts) testing methodology, or how it behaves on the current version of DCS, all I know is that...

Going from a 7700X to a 7800X3D on a 4090 I saw measurable and noticeable improvment in frame-time consistency and far less dips into reprojection with a G2 reverb. This is at the same graphical settings and DLSS/DLAA. enabled. And according to DCS internal reporting software, still CPU limited.

As for 7800X3D and now 9800X3D vs anything Intel in gaming,  both ARE objectively faster in any situation where there is not another limiting factor present...If my Honda Accord is racing a F1 car but we're both stuck behind a school bus going 45mph with no ability to pass, my Accord will be just as fast as the F1 car.

Hey guys. I only have some subjective impression so far.
I by accident erased all my frikkn DCS settings when reinstalling windows.
I flew just a little and had set everything to almost maxed in my Varjo aero. Everything was smooth.
Without having done any benchmarks its feels extremely smooth. HAve to tune down resolution because i can hardly spot distant contacts when my Varjo is set to 39ppd and Fovea area is stet to 1.4 Dots get too tiny for my old eyes;)

But performance was nice. Very well playable and no stuttering whatsoever.

Yeah and here in Japan the usual leeches are buying up the 9800s and putting them on Amazon for x3 the RRP. No hurry, my i9 is doing ok.
