It's probably possible to play with Dynamic Foveated Rendering / QV, I'm curious about the first opinions. Although I'll probably stick with Quest . However, the financing options are actually interesting. On the other hand, the development of the VR market is going quite fast and in 24 months it will already be the next generations, and you will only just finish paying it off 😉

Let´s wait and see. They advertise, that we don´t run into perfomance problems, since we can omit Anti Aliasing and take advantage of Dynamic Foveated Rendering. I have a powerful PC, if that is not enough, Pimax runs into deep problems.

There is no magic-sauce here; there will be a compromise to be made. At the end of the day, the image still has to be rendered and the bigger and better the image is, the more muscle it takes. Our current headsets (even G2) can already bring a 4090 to it's knees. This will be no different; as mentioned above, I would start saving up for that 5090. 🫠

On the other hand, Pimax Prime thing is interesting....will the headset have to have communication with a server to function now? I ask because in FAQ it mentions if payment is missed, headset doesn't function so there appears to be a need for communication between headset and "home base." I guess my question if the device is bought outright/payed-off, is an active internet connection now required and what if things happen and Pimax isn't able to provide/maintain the service; will the headset continue to function?

Same here, so I start saving for the 50PPD as the RTX5090 🥳

The measured FOV of Super 57ppd is 119 degree. So you need to find out the measured FOV of the headset you looks for compare.

What'd be the main reason to update to a OLED set when that comes out?  Is it just the darker blacks and better colors?

Mainly contrast and true black. But FOV much worse.

Yes, I also generally prefer to invest in hardware because then you have better comfort. It's a race without end. 😅

The 50PPD ist now available, shipment estimated for March 24 (instead of Jan 24 for 57 PPD).

I have just asked the customer service to change my order from 57PPD (120 HFOV) to 50PPD (135 HFOV) - even though extra 57PPD unit would "only" be 399 $. That was no problem at all for Pimax.

I can´t think of a use case having to panels, as I am always looking for a wider FOV. That´s why I am willing to wait a bit longer until Spring 24.

Lul, whut? I'm running DCS at very high settings on a Crystal with a 4090 and it's very smooth (slight steppiness looking sideways, low to the ground, but I've previously had that perfect too...updates are the bane of VR).
I originally had a G2 on a 1080Ti and it was playable. Upgraded to a 3080Ti and it was superb. My 4090 would have stomped it.

Did you cancel the order and placed a new order? Pimax „manually“ changed my order and I will not see it on the website. I do not trust this process fully.

You may submit a ticket and they should be able to confirm according.

I was told that better to wait till actual shipping date of 57ppd ready when any reviews available. Really need official guidance how to choose between 57ppd and 50ppd with pros and cons, and also some reviews by 3rd party to compare both QLED headset in sim. Honestly I don’t know whether 50ppd is better choice indeed…other than tradeoff between FOV and PPD. It’s bet to pick for now.

Not sure what specific part you find confusing.

Can you have your settings at a point where you have buttery smooth gameplay on a 4090? Yes. Can you turn up the settings so that 4090 becomes a bottleneck? Also yes.

I already had a ticket and asked for an official confirmation of changing my order from 57PPD to 50PPD. They then send me an email confirmation and I now also see the correct (changed) order in my profile on the website. Never been a Pimax customer so far, but their support was on time and helpful. Now I am wainting for the first reviews of the Pimax Super next year and than I am happy to wait for the 50PPD...

Well sure, you can have a headset's render at max and DCS PD at max too, that'll bring a 4090 down to an art gallery with a white cane. But in sane use, with all the aids (OpenXR with Quadviews) I can run very high DCS settings in VR and apart from very minor jerking while doing what no real pilot would do (on the deck, admiring the scenery sideways) the 4090 stomps it. 🙂

It seems we have a difference of preference in quality settings.

To each their own, however, doesnt change the fact that DCS can bring even the 4090 down to the level of performance where some (myself included) would not enjoy simming at.
