beastfang Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 (edited) It was working fine before, but after the first few updates, I can't select a character when logging into the server using the domain name. I'm using DCS World 2.9 Dedicated Server (modular installer) At first, I thought it was someone's network problem. But since the problem happened many times and many people reported it to me, Then I started to research the problem. I reinstalled the server program & restricted the server program traffic to a dedicated broadband & monitored the server program's link address (93.115.211.146; 54.36.177.169) & verified the resolution address of my domain name & many other methods. Finally, I found that when I filled in the IP address, I could select the role, but when using the domain name, I could not select the role. Dunska Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Interesting. I've had issues recently with my friend hosting an MP game and when I connect (via FQDN / DNS name) it joins his server, but I have no coalition selection dialog... so can't choose a side or a slot. Online MP servers I select from the server list work though - and those connect via IP address. I'll test connecting to my friend via IP address rather than FQDN / DNS name and see if it works.

Dunska Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 DNS was resolving correctly, as I could connect to the server. It just would not give me the join coalition dialog - I was just hanging in space in VR over an airfield.
Dunska Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 (edited) ok - I just did some testing with a random public server. If I connect via IP address to this OCG server it is all fine and I get the Join Coalition dialog (27.122.117.173). If I join via the DNS name (ocg.hi-powered.net), then I am left in spectator mode with no dialogs. If I choose "Select Role" from the menu, it drops me at the F10 map with the join coalition button in the top left selected, but no actual Join Coalition dialog showing. Because it's not that the server can't be found (which means there is no problem with DNS resolution), but that after entering the game, you can't select a character. 9900K | 4090 | 32Gb | Quest 3 | VD Link | RS FSSB R3L MKII"ULTRA" + RS F16 Side Grips GRH V2 | Winwing Orion Throttle Base II + TGRIP F16 | TM TPR | Winwing ICP | DIY AH-64 KU | Buick GL8 Seat | USB Cigarette Lighter | Cambridge Audio DACMagic 200M | Aura AST-2B-04 | Genelec 8010A
HC_Official Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I have always used IP for direct connections as using a name has never worked right (even trying it on a LAN between client and server) No more pre-orders Click here for tutorials for using Virpil Hardware and Software Click here for Virpil Flight equipment dimensions and pictures. .
Dunska Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 It used to work a patch or two ago. My friend setup a Dynamic DNS entry for his public IP to make it easier to join when he hosted a game. Not a big deal as I can still find him in the Server Browser and connect that way (which uses the IP address). Just a slight annoyance that it used to work and is now bugged. At least there is a simple workaround.

I think ED should be prompted to fix it. 9900K | 4090 | 32Gb | Quest 3 | VD Link | RS FSSB R3L MKII"ULTRA" + RS F16 Side Grips GRH V2 | Winwing Orion Throttle Base II + TGRIP F16 | TM TPR | Winwing ICP | DIY AH-64 KU | Buick GL8 Seat | USB Cigarette Lighter | Cambridge Audio DACMagic 200M | Aura AST-2B-04 | Genelec 8010A

And other applications based on dynamic domain names are running normally, such as infuse, emby , homeassistant and so on in my understanding, the professional term should be: point the domain name's resolution address to my public IP, not ip address nees to point to the DNS name. so I think this has nothing to do with the "DNS(Domain Name System)" & "DNS name", becasue the resolution address of my Domain name had point a correct ip address. and allow me to say a few more words here, I always insist on detailed and accurate descriptions so that I can solve problems for others online::::: If I want a domain name to point to a device in my home, the following steps are required. 1)need a domain name provider to provide me with a domain name 2)need a domain name resolution service provider to provide resolution services for my domain name 1 and 2 above are generally available from service providers such as Cloudflare 3)need a dynamic domain name service(DDNS) provider to provide my home dynamic IP to the domain name resolution service provider in real time. Then this domain name can point to the IP address of my broadband DNS name um~~~~ whatever thanks bro maybe I'm not the smart guy. 9900K | 4090 | 32Gb | Quest 3 | VD Link | RS FSSB R3L MKII"ULTRA" + RS F16 Side Grips GRH V2 | Winwing Orion Throttle Base II + TGRIP F16 | TM TPR | Winwing ICP | DIY AH-64 KU | Buick GL8 Seat | USB Cigarette Lighter | Cambridge Audio DACMagic 200M | Aura AST-2B-04 | Genelec 8010A
