When i get chance to get on the pc to have a mess on DCS i find myself doing the same things in create mission or just flying around. This can get quite boring on your own. Id like to fly with some people to waken things up when i get free time. Is there anyone who is in the same boat

You could try contacting several virtual sqns, there is a section within this forum

Or, if you lack time for committing to a virtual sqn and don't mind having to ignore an occasional rotten apple, some of the 4YA servers are usually pretty well populated for a nice DCS session together with others.

I often "create" my own little sub-missions on the 4YA servers, by providing CAP or SEAD for helo players.

The Sinai 4YA server is also very nice for helo ops, due to less long distances (although unfortunately not as populated)

Yeah i looked at this but then thought i couldnt comit due to my work and busy home life.

What is a 4YA server? And do they have servers for the jets as well? Are they a join etc and no comitment server

Go to Multiplayer from the main DCS menu screen and in the search bar type: 4YA

 

You'll now see the list of all available 4YA servers. Check which one are populated and join

It is relaxed

You can use voice chat but don't have to

 

(There's also a few acrobatics 4YA servers if you fancy that)

Ah ok do you need to setup voice chat? If so is it easy? Reason i ask is ive flown with a few lads in the past to carry out carrier landings o  a server they directed me to and we juat used discord open mic

You don't need it (I never used it myself), but I suppose it being part of DCS core, it's probably very easy.

Just don't be bothered about occasional ace combat players (taking off from runways etc.)

Haha, do you mean as thwy have no communicayion with the ATC? LOL.  If i dont get the voice chat sorted that would be me lol

When you click on Multiplayer and the server list appears, there is a small icon on the left stating if the server uses DCS Voice chat or not.

If it states it uses voice chat im assuming you need it

It is part of DCS, its not another app like Discord or a 3rd party addon like SRS.

Id like to get SRS but looks hard to setup. With voice chat do you need to set up a switch for mic on /off?

I don’t use discords, SRS or anything and I’ve been on MP servers.

Lots of people fly around without using them either. Some type in the chatbox and fly erratically, some don’t. People fly about quite happily, have a go Ghost.

Generally, people will put you straight if you’re breaking any rules, no harm done. Have a look at a training server maybe? That’s what they’re for, training, ain’t they? (No, they’re for pissing about trying to fly while typing silliness).

Have a look. More than likely someone on there will help you sort out SRS if you really need it.

You see im on VR so typing may be an issue. Ive never really entered the servers as ive never really wanted to step into a server that annoys a mission etc. As i dont really know the rules

I felt the same way. Having no idea how it all worked I didn’t wanna jump on a server and step on any toes or mess up someone’s mission so I stayed off em for a while.

The training servers will give you an idea what they’re all about. VR users don’t tend to type much but it has been known, until their headset needs recharging at least. Some never say a word. Some spawn in, deliberately crash into people and sod off again without ‘saying’ anything. Don’t do that unless you wanna upset somebody. Other than that, you should be alright.

Cheers mate ill have a look. Are the training servers easy to find? I wan to put the skills ive been learning to test and fly with something other than AI or just myself. I dont want to be one of those people who crashes ito others or enter to wreck what could be hours of there missions

99% sure, something like TRAINING will be into the server names, in order to help people choosing and avoid misunderstandings

I think for voicechat you need an input from your aircraft VHF and UHF radios at least. No idea if you could take a simpler way with just one "press to talk PTT" input. My virtual squadron is not into DCS voice chat. Still.

If you type 4YA in the server search their stuff should come up. They usually have a few training servers running with different maps.

Their Aerobatics Training servers are pretty easy going. They’ve set up a few different things so you can practice all sorts. Tanking, Time-trial air racing or whatever you feel like doing. Arming anything gets you kicked off the Aerobatics servers, they’re strictly no fire zones. 

4YA servers seem to be busiest. Their Project Overlord one can be good. Plenty of ‘aces’ about so be prepared to be shot down plenty.

Personally, flying with AI doesn’t compare to flying with others. It’s where it really comes to life. It’s a lotta madness and chuckles most of the time. Generally people will help you out if you’re trying to learn something too.

The 4ya server was mentioned above aswell, ill have a search for this. And try and have a go. Im assuming you find a 4ya server load into ot and then just mess about training?
